i would say yeah it's convenient if you are using scripts that require php 5.

more & more developers now are developing using PHP 5.

PHP 5 as been stable for a long while now (as long as you use the latest versions)

if your servers are using PHP versions such as 5.04 or some of the older versions, then you may have a few issues.. but the latest versions of PHP 5 are stable & indeed faster than PHP 4.

the few issues you may get with modules on PHP 5 are usually quickly fixed (ok depending on the actual issues)

but i think it's about time hosts started supporting PHP 5. afterall it's the future and only supporting PHP 4 is kind of restricting new developments.

it's pretty normal.. dunno why it happens tho, as it can be a number of reasons, but it's doubtful that is what caused you not to be able to login..

i would remove the .htaccess rewrite rule as that may have consequences as a whole under other conditions.

i would start looking for other reasons, turn debug on and see what that throws up.

Howdy All,

I installed SmartProfile and then SmartObject to add new registration fields for my members. I've an error described in this thread
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=55746&forum=28

Whenever I access the admin page I get this error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /xoops/cache/adminmenu.php on line 768

Line 768 of this file looks like this.
<div style='margin-top: 5px; font-size: smaller; text-align: right;'><a href='#' onmouseover='shutdown();'>[Close]</a></div></td></tr><tr><th style='font-size: smaller; text-align: left;'><img src='".XOOPS_URL."/modules/smartmedia/images/smartmedia_logo.png' alt='' /><br /><b>"._VERSION.":</b0.85<br /><b>"._DESCRIPTION.":</b"Framework providing functionnalities to SmartModules"</th></tr></table></div>

Since this is in the cache diretory can I delete this file? I tried moving the modules/smartobject and modules/smartprofile out of the XOOPS tree but I get the same object. To get here I had a working site, installed smartprofile module and then smartobject when I realized I needed it for smartprofile. At smartobject install I got my error message.

Thanks for any help, BA

can you please confirm your XOOPS version, php version & MySQL version.

no need to start another post for the same problem.. we don't like giving the same support for the same questions to the same user across multiple threads that are related to the same problem (there's no point it just confuses every1, and confuses even more those people experiencing the same problem.. so we'll keep the replies in the other thread ;)

have locked this thread

i can honestly say i have never had a problem with surpass whatsoever.

and as for XOOPS on surpass servers, never a problem like you mention..

and i have experience of surpass with both shared hosting and a dedicated server..

i haven't found a module yet that doesn't work on surpass servers.. apart from when the module required globals to be enabled and also required fopen to be on.

but as default globals & fopen are enabled on surpass.. i disabled them with a php.ini file.. are you 100% sure that the problems you had with modules on surpass were to do with surpass server settings? because i know lots of people on surpass using XOOPS sites without a single problem. the problems that have been on surpass with XOOPS was 99% of the time due to user mistakes and not surpass servers..

chmod can also be done with FTP on surpass.. the only thing you can't change with ftp on surpass is the owner attribute.. and i'm afraid there are hundreds of other hosts that do the same. it's a pretty common setup.. so that's not something you can blame surpass for.. it is an actual security measure!!

XOOPS 2.0.15 or any XOOPS version does NOT use a xoops_trusted_path.

so if you are having trouble with xoops_trusted_path then you must have either installed 1 of GIJOES hacks or you are not using XOOPS and are using XOOPS Cube instead.
