I have not yet seen a migration script from Geeklog to XOOPS. I think having one would be a valuable addition to the XOOPS community though, and would be willing to answer any questions if you tried to write one yourself.

Which parts of your site would the migration script need to handle:

User Accounts
Permissions
Application Data:
* News Articles
* Calendar Events
* Photo Galleries
* Links / Downloads

I can recommend the following modules:
News Article Management: News 1.3
Calendar: piCal or extcal
Gallery: the XOOPS embedded version of gallery is not the latest version, you could try using it, or myAlbum-p
Links: MyLinks (core module)
Downloads: WF-Downloads or MyDownloads (core module)

Just as an aside, what particular issues are you having with Geeklog? Was there any feature (or features) that you are looking for in XOOPS?

You'll probably be best served then by posting specific questions in one of the development forums, either here or on dev.xoops.org.
IMO nothing beats jumping into the code with both feet though. Take an existing module that does something like what you want and tear into its code. Reading code is a tough, but very rewarding skill.

Go to System -> Groups, click on "Modify" for the webmasters group, then go down to the bottom where there is a section labeled "Edit Members of this Group"

Bassman - thanks for the reminder. I've been meaning to write a SQL script to identify the themes that have incorrect permissions to make this easier to fix. Adding to my todo list now.

it doesn't function because we haven't been able to duplicate the problem.
I just thought of something though - what is the value of the php setting "arg_separator.output" on the installation that has this problem?

Your best bet without writing something custom might be the liase module, which lets you create custom forms and have the form submissions sent via email.
