I've been using a marvelous resource for developing sites, which I thought I'd share with the XOOPS Community.

It provides a way of looking at websites from the bad side, to create something good. I've also bought both books on the author of the sites views on websites... Really good stuff to think about.

I'm amazed at how lousy some sites are, and how expensive they were to build. I alway heard if you don't have good taste you can hire it...LOL That doesn't always appear to be the case.

CLICK ON THIS TEXT TO GO TO WEB PAGES THAT SUCK SITE

Check out the load time for the site, you'll be amazed at what can be done. That is, when it's done correctly.

Maybe some more XOOPS devs will share some of their resources for good website development as well.

I've been programming 4GL Clarion for over 10 years, and web development was something I never had to do. When my clients started clamouring for database applications for the web they really pulled my chain.

I bought a Visual Studio.net Enterprise architect edition software to soften the blow...LOL

I found XOOPS and never fired that $1700 US package up.

Regardless, when I found XOOPS I really cut a bunch of corners. I still can't effectively code it well enough to build modules, because I just don't have time to "FERRET OUT WHAT I NEED TO CODE IT". So, I look for modules and tweak them minimally for the time being. I'm building some pretty nice sites as well.

I think it should be said with some vehemence...

A year ago, XOOPS was not even close to the product it is today. The number of developers and posters on these boards is significantly improved. So...the XOOPS team really needs to think about creating some competent documents to really get XOOPS off the "hobby shelf" and "tricked out websites category".

A fabulous improvement would be a tool that would provide an editor. The tool would also allow a testing of the module as it would be applied in typical "default" XOOPS installed on a server. A sort of simulator tool.

I take my hat off the developers of the XOOPS modules. Let's face it, the XOOPS community needs to be able to build progressively. If every new version or improvement requires coding changes in existing modules it will be hard over time to maintain interest in the Xoops, without some reliable software tools to enable changes easily.

There is an E-Xoops module developer document over on the

MODSCENTRAL SITE

E-Xoops is a spin off Xoops, but I'm not sure how helpful the document would be.

Cool Theme presentation tool most of us could use...

It would be great to have co-zillion site themes zipped and packaged, which could be installed in one go.

Then have a drop-down block that would let you cycle through them all to show clients. The process of presentation could be as simple as that for site themes.

I've been loading up a pile of themes over the past few days, but it's tedious to say the least.

I know it's not a big smart idea, but it would help some of us who actually build sites for clients.

Besides, I'd just love it if theme modifications were narrowed down a bunch in front of the client...if you get my meaning. Heck, it's hard enough just working through content requirements with clients.

I DL it, but to be honest with no docs I've been reluctant to install it. Don't take offense. Some of the things I've loaded sounded great, but created a myriad of issues for me.

I can't keep doing and re-doing if you understand what I mean.

Also, I'm not quite sure I understand what it does...

how do I remove them when this happens?

Better question is:

HOW DO I REMOVE THEM (modules that is)

I just installed a module I'd like to remove.

I unclicked the darn thing and updated, which I thought removed them at least from the XOOPS process. NOT!

I'd like to remove several modules I loaded to test out, and they didn't test out. I'd just like to remove all evidence of them - forthwith LOL

Anybody help with this?

THanks

That is a slick looking little menu, but I found a dynamic menu like the DynaMenu works better for me. Especially, when you have a lot of sub-folders.

I downloaded a CSLH, but I'v been hestitant to load it.

Thought I'd ask if anyone is using it? Most important would you recommend it?

Oh! for readers not familiar with it. It is like a chat module, but it's like one way to the server admin or support. I doesn't address a community of users, so the hit on the bandwidth shouldn't be any issue.
