Thanks, but at the end i did not need to clone the module.

Anyway, I've been proposed for a big fat project and did some research. I just installed Drupal and Xaraya and started playing around. The New York Observer site moved to Drupal, and they wrote an article about it:

http://drupal.org/node/141187

I found it pretty interesting. I'll also print Xaraya guide and read it. Too much time working with XOOPS, a fresh viewpoint on CMS can not hurt me. Sun Tzu has said: "If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles."

(yes, I read "the art of war").

What the...?

In XOOPS 2.0.16 the problem seems fixed, but i find the beahavior a bit "wrong":

That is, I send a message:

· To all registered users: OK.
· To all members belonging to registered, admin or subadministrator group: OK
· To users accepting webmaster notifications: OK

· Only to users of the admin group accepting webmaster notifications: WRONG!!! The mail is sent to every registered user, not just those of the admin group.

This is a VERY WRONG idea, the "accept notification" should not override all others. Period. At least, not the groups selection. Suppose you have two levels among users, the usual registered user and some sort of "platinum usergroups", with special access to some sections, or stuff like that.

Suppose you want to mail the platinum and ONLY the platinum group, but don't want to bother those that don't want to receive webmaster's advices.

You have the tools to mail them at once, you have the tools to select just one group, you have the option to select to bother only those that accept to be bothered, you send your message AND EVERYTHING IS TOTALLY WRONG, message arrive to lots of people that are not interested in your platinum stuff, or much worse, THEY RECEIVE AN INFO THEY SHOULD NOT READ.

Suppose your message is a commercial offer just for platinum members, something exceptional and "off the record", and it arrives to every regular user.

If you're jsut the webmaster and not the owner of the site, then you're about to be full of #OOPS#.

Don't really know, the best thing I can say about their server is that it totally sucks (yes, this is the best I can say).

That's why I'm looking for "PHP-driven solutions I can control". I activated the caches, although I'd find useful some documentation about how it works. Example: What should be the effect of the cache in "contact us" module? I'll have to try and see what happens.

Hi!

I have a customer that runs a XOOPS site that is painfully slow, and they can't move to a more powerful server for the most stupid reason you could ever hear: it belongs to a public University and some "bureaucrazy" fat cat denies authorization.

http://www.ugr.es/~ncog

Activating caches is possible but it seems not enough. I was thinking about removing all unneeded whitespace, newlines and all this stuff that makes HTML readable to humans but just a waste of space for computers. XOOPS uses output buffer, so it can be done.

I have two (2) questions:

1 - Should I bother? I mean, is it worth the effort?

2 - I expected to find a PHP function for this, but no luck, so I should write a custom function?

There are two reasons for that:

Missing a language file, the system only finds english version for these items.

Translation to swedish is notcomplete, this english text is taken from the swedish language files, but someone forgot to translate these phrases.

Do you use Dreamweaver? If you do, just do a "find in the whole site" to see where is this phrase located in the swedish files, then translate it. If Dreamweaver just finds it in the english files, just copy-paste-translate it.

Question: You're editing the templates within the XOOPS control panel or are you overriding them? Overriding means copying them to your theme folder so that you can edit them using Dreamweaver or any other visual editor, then uploading them via FTP or whatever you use to upload the files to the server.

I can't understand why <{$topic_title}> doesn't work. I'm using News 1.53 in a new site I'm building and of course it works.

What's in the Smarty debug console? Does it show the <{$topic_title}> item?

Sidenote: Nice design, good job.

Oh, and, BTW, to do breadcrumbs with News perhaps you could use <{$topic_path}>. I think it comes commented in the code by default, but it works, just uncomment it.

Perhaps you could do some kind of Server Side Include. YOur server must be apache for that, i think.

That's it: you prepare a "totally naked theme" for xoops. That's it's, no CSS, an empty HTML file as main template, just the content.

Then you include it in your main website. You put something likke this in your HTML:

Quote:
<!--#include virtual="the_xoops_content_i_want_to_see.html" -->

I don't know wether it will work with PHP files, but you should give a try.
