This is more simple that you really think!

go to the blocks admin

make a custom Center-Center block.

can be html, or automatic, put the title and the content and save.

Later go to admin groups, and set the permission for each group can see this new block and ...... it's all.

What do I have to do to have a welcome message like the block "Welcome to XOOPS official website!" on XOOPS site? I looked in everything under news but i did not find any way of doing that. I know that "News" module is set to display when the site is opened but I could not find anything in News . Is it customization or is available in standard install

I was just helping this guy, with his XOOPS install, and I reckon that if on the front page of this site, we had a BIG RED LINK to a form with certain questions, as follow:

Do you have PHP? Version.
Do you have SQL? Version.
Apache/ISS/Other? Version.
Xoops? Version.
Do you have a DB, with correct name and pass.

Register Globals, on/off?

Xoops URL?
Xoops Path?

Can you see install.php?

Can you see index.php?

Can you loging?

All this form would do, is produce a formatted text page that the person could paste into a messanger software, or their first forum post. No Db at all.

And if you were really clever, you could make it decision tree like, ie, if you cannot see install, it would not bother asking about index.php

Whaddya reckon?

A tip about Xoops 2's backend.php

Just as a heads-up to other users, the XOOPS 2 backend.php file isn't broken if you get reports of it not displaying headlines properly.

If one of your syndicators reports that your feed is showing up as XOOPS 2, followed by the tail-end of your story URL, let them know that your backend.php file is using RSS 2.0 now, instead of RSS 0.91.

This ought to clear up any display problems!

No argument that it is not difficult to open a new window, but the point is that the way it works now reduces the usability of the search result pages. Opening a new window will require extra clicks or an extra keypress to search the site. My browser is using default settings, so anybody using IE6 will have the same hassles.

Here's my suggestions:

1: Fix the search page result page so that it behaves similar to XOOPS 1.3.8. This means that the search results page doesn't expire when I click on one of the results.

Maybe this cannot be done because of the "post/get" usage in the search form. If so, then at least do this...

2. Open a new browser window for me when I click on a link in the search results by adding a target='_blank' to the tag.

I'm just trying to save myself and other users the hassle of using extra hands or extra clicks to search a Xoops2 site.

I don't think this is problem totally on the XOOPS side. Your browser (IE) is preventing (for security reasons) from resending the data. This security settings (wish cannot be chanced) is for preveting for example that you order 2 pc's on internet in place of 1

And why you don't just open the results in new page?

Noticed another quirky behavior on the search page. The search page expires when using the back button.

For example:
- enter search term "html" and submit
- results show up on search.php
- click on one of the links to view the page
- hit the browser back button to see the search results again
- browser gives me the "Warning - Page has expired" message
- need to refresh page to view search results

This warning seems to happen on the xoops.org running Xoops2. I am able to get back to the search results on my own website running 1.3.8 without refreshing.

Not a major problem, but more of a pain in the butt, since I have to refresh the search results page everytime I hit the back button.
