I just downloaded and extracted XOOPS2_mod_news_1.44.zip from the Official XOOPS Module Repository!
https://xoops.org/modules/repository/singlefile.php?cid=48&lid=1558

In this New Install I uploaded the news directory to my modules directory of the site, went into the site as administrator, then ...

In the install new modules section below the Submit button of the Modules Administration,
I see the following Messages:

Module File for news Not Found!Module File for Not Found!Module File for Not Found!Module File for Not Found!Module File for Not Found!Module File for Not Found!

Then comes the "Module Version Action" colums with a broken image under the Module, Version 0,
and "Module File for Not Found!" between the icons of the install.gif & info.gif

Perhaps someone has seen this kind of behavior before, or can help me figure out where I'm missing the mark, etc.

- Thanks in Advance - 10/4 M.D.

... almost forgot:

Operating SYS Linux
Kernel version 2.6.9-34.EL
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.36 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.2
MySQL version 4.1.19-standard

- Michael tomatoe

I've installed a few modules to far without any problems...

This site was put up for my wife & daughter, which is:

http://www.storerunners.com/

Until I figure out what I need to do the XOOPS is at the following location:

http://www.storerunners.com/xoopscms/

- Thanks Again & take care M.D.

You probably haven't uploaded the news module directory cleanly. Good news is that it is very easy to fix! Please see my comments in this thread.

Well I read the thread from your link and found only one file in the root of the modules directory, which was a small index.html file with the contents of:

Nevertheless I made a backup of it and removed it from my modules root, tryied to install and News again but it did not change the look of the New Module Installation page see what I see:

broken graphic and error message

Perhaps there is something more basic going on here ???

- thanks & take care M.D.

Well folks, I've been thru most of the tutorials suggested, to make double dead dog certain I was on the right track. Very nice flow on most of them BTW ...

Meanwhile, I've deleted the news from under the modules directory, tried a fresh download and FTP & Install of the module thru the Admin panel. still the same results.

Then just to make sure my XOOPS could intall anything, I selected the NewBB 2.0 downloaded, FTP'ed to my site, and installed via Admin, etc. - perfect, np.

So I'm back at square one with the news module installation :( ... pitty too cause so many of the XOOPS sites I come across have it and it addresses many needs, etc.

- Thanks again & take care M.D.

Very strange.

You might try downloading the .zip file again from a different server than the one you previously used. It might be that one of the servers has a corrupt copy of the zip file.

I recall a problem like this once. For me I had goofed and deleted the module before uninstalling it or maybe it was something else I did. Do you have access to your DB?
Uninstall the module from your admin/system/modules if you can.

Go into your database with phpmyadmin and search the structure for any rogue tables for the news module and drop them/delete them.

Maybe even get rid of the module from your XOOPS root/modules. You could try updating the system to see if it shows up. If it doesn't look right get rid of it from your directory. Go back in and see what it looks like in the admin/system/modules. You may have to update system again. If you get it back to normal without the news module and you have gotten rid of the tables in the database you should be good to go.

Upload your news module again and try installing again like normal.

If you have a look in the module you'll find a subfolder called 'sql'. Have a look in there and you'll find the .sql file that sets up the database tables. You can get a list of them from there. Offhand I can't see any news tables in there though.
