Thanks for the great feed back. I was looking at using XOOPS for an enterprise environment as both an internal tool for employees as well as for their customers employees.

So lets make a perfect world assumption. Lets suppose my budget was unlimited and I was running XOOPS on say an IBM S/390 with a terabyte of RAM and gigabit backplane so there is no CPU, RAM, Disk or bandwidth limitations. What size database and number of users / concurrent users could the tool support ? ie is there a maximum connections, indexing or database size limitation .....?

Is there any information available on the breaking points of the tool?

Sorry I am not linux, php or MySQL savy so I really don't know the limitations of the underlying operating systems, middleware applications or the XOOPS code itself.

thanks again for the great support.

I was wondering what the maximum number of users is for xoops, concurrent user capacity and it's level of scalabilaty.

Are any limitations simply CPU / RAM / Bandwidth or is there some other inhibitors that would limit concurrent or maximum users.

Do the number modules you attach affect performance.

Is there a formulae or a method of calculating performance degredation as users increase.

Has any one used this tool with say 1000 concurrent users and a total user base of around 50K plus.

Thanks

Hi thanks for the info on popnblog. I installed 1.52 and still not quite there yet.

Popnblog allowed me to have a user request the creation of a blog but again every registered user could read it.

Perhaps it is my configuration or perhaps I didnt post the requirement correctly. Maybe I need to go to module request and post if this does not exist.

Requirement
A unique Blog for every registered user.
The blog is private and can only be seen by the person who wrote it.
The person who wrote the entry has the option of making an entry public, semipublic or keeping it private (default is private) public would be all registered users, semi private is a group that the registered user who owns the entry creates and private is just that user.

The registered user should not be able to edit the time or date it was written.
The registered user should not be able to modify the blog entry after it is posted except to make it public or private.

This should be like a virtual diary written in pen that can not be changed. The diary can only be seen by the registered user or people they nominate.

I am projecting 10,000 plus users of my site so manual blog creation and administration of a group for every user would not be possible.

thanks again and appreciate all your help

Hi I have 1.2.1 installed for news and that didn't seem to do what I wanted.

I created two news categories private and public. Maybe I am just configuring permisions incorectly.

If a user logs in I want every time they post in their private blog only they can see the entry or people they approve can see it.

If they post in public then anyone can see it.

Does this make sence. It's like a diary I only want my closes friends to read my diary and not the general public.

again it may just be my configuration I am new to XOOPS and am trying to use it to set up a new website. With only a little programming knowledge of PHP.

thanks again for all your great support

Hi any update on this module looks similiar to my needs

I want a way people can write an article, publish the article with a date and time stamp, Have a unique number assigned to it, allow the upload of graphics etc and then receive donations via paypal if people use the article.

I was also hoping to lock the article so the author could not change the original but could publish a later version with a new time and date stamp,

Hi

I installed the blog module and created 2 categories 1 called public and 1 called private. Removing the edit function should not be hard but I don't know how to make the private blog "PRIVATE" (or accessible by a small list of members that I the owner of that blog choose)

Any ideas on this one or is there another product/module anyone is aware of that allows you to keep a record, time and date stamp it and then only allows people who you nominate to see it.

I am sure there is a big demand for this type of feature as there are many things we need to log (hospital charts, legal documents, project information) that you want to have a record of when it was logged and what happened but not necessarily let the world see it unless you decide to.

I am looking for a module that can act as a diary or a private blog where you can keep notes but only you and the people you designate can access them can see the what you have posted. Sort of like a diary that you don't mind your closest friends reading. I would also like the edit function on this (blog, forum, diary, news, whatever module) disabled so you can't go back and change history, once you submit it is written in stone..

thanks

I want to have a forum where users CAN NOT EDIT there previos posts. I am looking to use the forum to keep an audit trail so when someone posts something you can go back and say on October 21st 2004 at 7:29 am est John said the following and John can not go back and change it.

Does any one know of a forum module where editing can be disabled.
