Sorry, it was late last night .. it's not a roadmap, it's a wishlist. And it's wikied as such as well.

I am looking forward to seeing where XOOPS is heading. I want to use it, I really do, but at the moment, I feel like my best option to get the product I need is to recode the phpBB2 codebase. I'd really like to avoid that ... REALLY!

Howdy,

Excuse if I'm stepping on toes or if I'm repeating something which I've missed ..

I've started to create a range of wiki pages for the roadmap to 2.1 so all the data is sitting on one place, able to be updated by all (you DO have accounts .. yes? If no, then make one!) and can help provide a place where we can all discuss what and how we can do these things.

I was going to add in more from the threads, and my own (!!!) but it's late and I just installed WinXP and Fedora on this machine already tonight, so I need some down time.

Hope this helps guys ..

M

Does the current/new version allow article submitters to attach images specific to the article?

Howdy,

Okay, rant time :)

I've downloaded the current batch of article/content modules, and they're all pretty good .. some better than others, some more powerful, some elegantly simpler. But, here's my problem. None of them do what I actually need.

My Needs List (in order of importantce) :

* A real category/subcategory system; XFSections seems to be the best option here.

* The ability for authors at attach and embed images. A needed extra to this would be the ability to control where and how the image sits; ie: floating right, centered, etc.

* The ability to see what Articles you've written, what are outstanding to be approved, the ability to edit, etc. An article control panel if you will.

* Keywords!

* Seperating the 'Submitted by:' and 'Writteb by:' with the aim of 'Submitted by' value being linked directly to user ID, and the 'Written by' being the User Name (by default) with the option of having an external Author's name. Things like email address and website of the original author can be handled in the article itself.

* Multipage

* Ability for a print friendly page, although a good CSS file can take care of that.

* Workflow .. user saves article for future editing .. user submits to approval .. approver can approve or deny .. if denied, original author STILL has the content available to them, as they can alter and re-submit ..

These are pretty much required for a real community based article system, and its heart-wrenching to see many come so close, but fall short.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not intended to be a harsh critisim. The modules around the place are great, it's just that I can see so much more being possible, and of being a great benefit to the XOOPS community.

If any authors are willing, I'd be more than happy help code these things .. Please contact me for any help I can provide.

Howdy,

I'm finalising my test install at the moment, and am thinking of trawling through the code and writing a bunch of 'hacks' to better support my users. A common example is .. say .. when submitting an entry into a forum, not having a link to [more...] smileys if there are no more smileys. You know, the little things that make a product a little more polished.

As I go through and do these, I'll document them all, and I'll just post them up here for people to use/try .. But, is there a method to incorporate these into the core? I'd love to be able to help out the XOOPS community as a whole.

I'm also thinking of rather than providing a hack in places, to create a module that can be added .. like an expanded 'Who's Online' box which is more focused on being used in a wide centre view rather than in a side box. That sort of thing ...

I'll also have these available from my XOOPS site once it's gone public.

Edit: spelling errors added

About the remember me option, check this out:

Thanks dude. I'll apply the code changes and see how I go.

The idea is that I have a single layer of items which you can click on .. easy enough .. but I want to drop down the various submets if they are available. Mousehover over Home and it's just a link ... Mousehover over Downloads and you get a drop down set of options .. Submit, Popular, Top Rated.

etc

Howdy,

Is there a way to get ALL the subMenus within the MainMenu block? I'm thinking of using some rather funky CSS to provide a nice drop down menu, but will need to a) get all the subMenu information sent via MainMenu, or b) build my own hard-coded block (something which I'd like to avoid for obvious reasons).

Any info on this?

Howdy,

Question to y'all .. I've set (on this site and my dev site) my user account to remember me for a year. However, each time I leave the machine and come back, it doesn't know me.

If this a known bug, or am I doing something not quite right, or are there racoons in the PC ...

This is pretty much a big need for my users as they're not exactly computer literate

Forgot to mention .. if you want, take a look at the first work in progress at the Innilgard Site (version 3) that I've got in test. Select the smoothblue theme in the selector top right to get an idea of where I'm heading.

Still rather rough at this stage, but it's about 30% done.
