And while we're talking about RSS, are there any plans to support Atom?

Simple Machines is actually a Xoops-like portal solution. It is being developed by the same folks who developed Yabb. So, obviously it will include a Yabbse forum module.

That being said, the whole thing has been promised for about nine months and still has not been released. I would not hold my breath. I think they discovered that this type of software is not nearly as easy to get out the door as they thought.

In addition, it will not be at all compatable with Xoops. So, you would have to decide whether XOOPS or Yabbse was more important. You won't be able to use both.

I have a XOOPS site and I have a Yabbse site. I have the same problem facing me.

In your admin panel -->> Site preferences -->> General settings, you set "News" as the default module for your start page. That will bring all (or however many you specify) news items into your opening page.

Mozilla has their own beta version of the Google toolbar available on the Mozilla site.

As for page rank, it is important for this reason: If you have a search term, let's say "pig's feet", that you want to lead to your site that sells pickled pig's feet, then the page rank determines where in a Google search your site will appear. So, assuming there are 100 sites that are targeting that term and assuming you have a page rank of "2", the odds are your site will be buried way down in the search return pages. Everyone knows that nobody bothers to look much past the first page of returns. On the other hand, if you have a site Page Ranking of "7", for example, that same search for "pig's feet" will likely turn your site up as one of the top three returns on the first page.

That's why PR is important.

I've found that XOOPS helps with PR. The reason? You can get a site out there fast and full of content.

Our site, Blogger Forum went from no ranking to a 5 in the fourth week it existed. The following month it went to 6. Where another non-Xoops site I have dropped from 6 to 5 in the recent change, the Blogger Forum site stayed at 6.

Xoops has the ability to quickly add the sort of content Google looks for: news updates, forums, articles. We also incorporated a Blogger blog in it's own directory which has a 6 ranking on its own (www.bloggerforum.com/blog).

By the way, incorporating a blog with links is a good way to beef up what XOOPS has to offer. To experiment on this, I created a blog at www.bloggerblog.com --it had a ranking of 2 with Google before I actually had a chance to put any blogs on it! There was nothing there at all, but Google thought it was great. Now it is populated with blogs (as of last week) so I'm waiting to see where it goes.

Assuming you mean in your own XOOPS site, avatars go into your MySQL database. That's why it's kind of a pain to have to either upload them one at a time or use a sql routine to write in a group of avatars to the database.

The channel content is stored in subdirectories off the module/wfchannel directory. The WF-Channel admin panel allows you to change where the content is stored.

What I would do is create the content and only allow the Webmaster to access the Main Menu link to WF-Channel. I would then use the Main Menu to access the content and make note of the links to the indvidual content and then put the links I wanted in a custom block.

I plan to use this mainly for an "About This Site" block as well. This would probably include some help content, some "about us" content, the included link to us content, and perhaps a few others.

It's not a real problem. It would be nice, however.

In the meantime, for blocks it would be easy enough to create a custom block and then have links to the various channels you wanted people to be able to access. That is really all that blocks do anyway.

I've been trying the latest version of WF-Channel (v1.05b) --which I like very much, and have been trying to get a WF-Channel block to display. I know I have Users set to show the module, but there is no block check-box. There also is no check box in the Blocks admin. I have had no problems with getting group permissions and block access correct with any other modules.

After fooling with this for awhile, it dawned on me that perhaps WF-Channel does not have block support and that the only connection is from the Main Menu. Is that correct, or am I missing something basic?

Is the module available anywhere? It seems to have disappeared.
