Then I broke it when changing mainpile security properties, and cannot get it to work again even if I set it to 777 ?

check the owner (user) of the files. In some setups if the file owner is not set properly the site will not work.

Hi,

it is always a good idea to do a back up (both files and database) first!

If you can, do a mirror of your site on a sub domain or a test mashine with same/similar setup and experiment there.

As I work a lot with templates I use GiJoes TemplateAdmin module.

And BlockAdmin for managing blocks.

They merged into AltSys.

I'm not shure how they work on new versions of xoops, so you need to check...

As JAV pointed xoopscare is very usefull module.

You may find some hacks also usefull, but that will make your job when upgrading much harder!

Hi,

if I understand corectly you need to edit your theme css file. Something like:

input {border1px solid #00FF00}

you can change also the text area:

textarea {border1px solid #00FF00}

Well, not many ideas, but you may try to check the server error logs (if you have access to them).

You may try to disable modules and blocks and see if the core is ok.

Do you have cloned template set. You may try to use the default one.

Hi,

and welcome to xoops.

To install a module after you downloaded it extract the files somewhere on your computer and check if thre is a readme file. Read carefully. Some modules may require extra components to be installed or version of PHP to be on your web server.

Then find the module folder - the one that have xoops_version.php file in it. Upload that folder (with all files and subfolders) into modules folder of your XOOPS site. Go to admin -> modules and if all is OK you should see the new module available for install. If you do not see it there go to preferences and enable debug option. If there are errors post them here (in support forums) with information of your XOOPS and server configuration.

You may also check thishttps://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=352

Hi,

you may try to enable debug mode (in administration -> Preferences -> General ssettings) and look for errors...

You may also try:
- update system module;
- delete (or rename it) adminmenu.php file in xoops_data\caches\xoops_cache folder.

Hi,

I'm not talking about the CP (control pannel) of xoops, but for control pannel of your hosting account. Most of them have phpmyadmin or other tool to edit database setup.

No one knows everything But it is good to learn - if you plan to run a web site you will have to do something similar sooner or later. You may use XAMPP on your home PC to learn and experiment whitous risking your site. It is good also first to test new modules and core updates this way.
