I reloaded the backup of my Database and mainfile.php and the site started to work again :) - Then I broke it when changing mainpile security properties, and cannot get it to work again even if I set it to 777 ?

You may also turning directory indexing off in Apache and move xoops_data and xoops_lib out of the root.

check the owner (user) of the files. In some setups if the file owner is not set properly the site will not work.
