Hi Bob

You've probably seen this already, but just in case you haven't, the annotated guide to the default css is invaluable for locating which style does what.

I'm not a programmer (or designer) either...but with XOOPs I can build sites in hours that I could *never* build by hand If you need to deal with lots of content its well worth the learning curve.

Regards

Simon

In my experience, it is difficult to STOP Google from finding and indexing your page. There is lots of juicy information on how to submit your site and how Google indexes your site available through their FAQ.

I have a private (I thought !) site that I have been using more or less as a test zone for developing my work site. Its small, insignificant and has very little on it, but Google still found and indexed it without me doing anything at all.

Google has certainly found my news page, I haven't got any forums so I can't comment on that. I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows how deeply/how many layers Google will dig into a site - since this may have ramifications for use of subcategories.

There's an option in the downloads module admin to allow/disallow leeching. You can also give permission to particular sites to download directly.

The somewhat hostile lecture you receive is probably the standard one that ships with XOOPS so don't take it personally Its not the nicest notification message I have seen...should probably change IMO.

How do any of the modules make use of image manager?

You can access the images in any module making use of the image manager button in the submit form (like in the submit news/downloads/links/whatever). Click on that and you get a little window that displays the uploaded images, pick the one you want, select an alignment button and it will be inserted into the text. It's not very intuitive at all, but its actually quite handy.

Image manager has a permission system controlling which groups can see which categories of images. You have to set those through admin/system/image manager in order to be able to access them. I'm assuming you are the webmaster though !

There is also restrictions on size/file size set in the same menu, but if that is why there are upload problems I think it should warn you that the limits were exceeded ? If FTP didn't work either then maybe then its probably not a XOOPS problem, maybe the directory is not writable or something ?

Good luck

There's a kickstart guide to module development in the Wiki that will get you a blank module with a menu link.

I suspect that browser usage patterns will show a fair bit of difference between regions and possibly amongst different social groups as well, as they may upgrade their system more or less often.

We run a site catering to south and south east Asia. Our logfile shows 30% of our visitors are still using IE 5.x. We are not a gaming site, if we were it would probably be a different story

We didn't try that, but I think so - can't see why you couldn't.

This thread might be of interest to you.

Ok, I've uploaded it, you can get it here, for a week or two, then I might take it off again when I reorganise. If you get stuck let me know.

I made one the other day, but its at work and I'm not If you can wait a few days I'll send it to you. I don't have the exact font but its fairly close.

Its a photoshop 6 file though...is that any good to you ? If not I'd be happy to churn out a few logos for you from the template.
