Hi there,

I'm starting a website called Jack vs Jill, and I need some help from the XOOPS community...

As you can see from my work so far, I plan to hav a panel of 6 "Experts" give advice on a reader's question about dating, relationships, or sexuality. Here's the break-down of how I see it working:

1. User submits relationship question via "Submit Question" link. I am currently using the contact_plus module which should work fine. This part is done.
2. Message is sent to panel members. 3 men, 3 women. This also I can just do by e-mail.
3. Panel members return their advice via e-mail, so admins can edit before final post.
4. Admin makes a multi-page article. Reader question on 1st page, then one panel member's advice on each page after that. (7 total).
5. Readers then need some way to vote for their favorite piece of advice. I could just do this with a weekly poll, but I figure there is something out there already that can do this. Something like a vote at the end of the article with a list of panel member's names...I'm not sure what to do here.

I've tried Articles, Arms, wf-section, and none of these seem to be customizable to only allow voting. I don't want comments or any way for the user to change these. No extra features really...

hi max100,

You do in fact need a mySQL database with Administrative rights to install XOOPS. You have to have the following info:

Database Host
Database Port (not really required but helpful)
Database Name
Admin User Name
Admin Password

If you can't access CPanel to see any of this, you might need to contact your hosting provider for technical support.

Most mods are actually here on the XOOPS community. Check out the downloads section.

This is great stuff. You'll love using it.

Just one thing more:

It would be wise if you only have a small amount of hosting space (mine is 500MB) to download the image and then reduce it's size using your favorite graphics program. You can even use MS Paint... Then upload that image as his avatar. 450K is really quite big.

This'll keep your images small, and your page loads very quick.

Hope this helps.

Can you check whether they've voted and display "You have already voted on this poll", or something similar? In the main polls block.

Edited out dumb question earlier.

Additionally, you'll need to know where the gzip file is and upload it through the interface.

I also had to add a gzip file directly into the XOOPS control panel, and then manually create some lists for my content for the look to completely take over.

hope that helps...

I jsut tried twice in firefox and twice in IE. Every time came to a blank page after clicking the logo...not sure what would cause that if it's been running before.

See this link.

"Installing Firefox

Once you have downloaded a Firefox installer or compressed archive, follow these instructions to install:

First, if you are running an old version of *Firebird* or *Phoenix*, visit the Extensions panel in Tools, Options and *disable all of your extensions*. If you cannot disable extensions, you must *create a new profile* before upgrading to Firefox 0.8. If you do not do this, your browser may not work, and you may receive messages like "Cannot create XBL Binding for Browser" or "Cannot create Browser Instance". You must now look for newer versions of your extensions that are described explicitly as being /compatible with Firefox 0.8/."
