Well I use CuteFTP.

But i might be doing something wrong.

here check this out
www.surpasshosting.com
and see if they support XOOPS (i've heard about the preinstallation on the server and i cant do it that way so please dont suggest it)

ok right, then i got XOOPS from the download page
on this XOOPS site and uploaded the contents (not the folder) of the html folder into the public_html directory
of my server, all the files and folder uploaded after some effort.

i then CHMODed these folders and files:
templates_c
cache
uploads
mainfile.php

then i went into explorer and opened up my site and it
says there is no site there.
take a look 66.194.238.158/

have i done anything wrong and if so please please help me!

- max

I believe you are looking at the wrong address. I use Surpasshosting and I have a XOOPS site running on it. Recheck to make sure that you are putting in the right path. I believe your path should be more along the lines of:http://66.194.238.158/~mysitename

Just tried that link...

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The error comes from your webhost, max100. You could try putting an index.html in your server root directory to make sure but it should come up saying the same thing. That means you are either using the wrong url, or your webhost provider hasn't set up that url for you to use yet.

thanks.

the url they gave me was activated ages ago, its called a temporary url, it can be used to see my site.

what do you mean index.html?,
the only index file in there is index.php, which i have
chmoded to 777 to test and then put it back to 644 so dont worry.

please can you continue to help.
thanks

What I was saying you could do to test that the url is correct, is create an index.html file, it can say anything on it. Upload it to the same place as your index.php and index.html will be the default homepage when you enter your url in your browser. Do this to see if you can see the index.html page that you uploaded.

If you can see it, then your problem is XOOPS related. Did you create a database for XOOPS before trying to install?
