Here are the steps I took:

Backed up website and saved to my home computer.

Exported entire database and saved to my home computer.

Installed XAMPP Lite or WAMP in your case.

Copied backed up website to XAMPP Lite appropriate folder (htdocs)

Edited mainfile.php to reflect current location on hard drive and new database login and password which is usually root for login and nothing for the password when using XAMPP Lite.

Created a database with same name as website's database through PHPMyAdmin.

Imported backed up database into newly created database.

Removed an .htaccess file from the root which caused a white screen when I tried to access the site through localhost.

**You don't have to INSTALL XOOPS on the local machine; you just copy everything over to your local machine, import your exported database and edit mainfile.php accordingly.**

HERE is a link that will probably explain it a little better than I did.

Would not say it is xoops, but look at the debug!

Page Source indicates XOOPS: content="XOOPS"

Forgot a step in 2.3.2b upgrade

Recently upgraded to 2.3.2b and forgot to implement this step:

*If you are upgrading an existing XOOPS Website, and Protector is already installed there, copy /extras/mainfile.dist.php.protector to /upgrade/upd-2.0.18-to-2.3.0/mainfile.dist.php BEFORE upgrading XOOPS.*

The upgrade went without a hitch except the protector precheck and postcheck includes weren't added to mainfile.php, so I added the includes manually.

My question is: Was this step mainly for adding the precheck and postcheck includes to the mainfile or was it that plus anything else I may have overlooked? The website is operating perfectly as is protector.

Thanks in advance for your expert help.

Did you try with 2.3.1?

@Mamba

I'm behind with this upgrade and trying to catch up. I did try the poll module with one of the release candidates on XAMPP with no negative consequences, but I'm just a regular user with no expertise to suggest that a module will definitely work with 2.3.

I just felt that this forward thinking forum post was worthy of a bump especially since some may have forgotten about it and that includes the "modules not working with 2.3" forum post.

I'm definitely interested in the workability of those modules that used to be packaged with the core such as: Links, Contact Us, Member List, and Polls.

Re: Xoops Contact Module Update - Compatibility Issue Fix

Installation went fine on a XOOPS 2.3 XAMPP installation. Captcha worked as advertised. Sendmail also worked without error, but I never got the mail I sent. I've never tried to send mail from a XAMPP installation and I really don't know whether it's possible to do so.

It's good to know that work is being accomplished on these much needed modules and that they will be compatible with future updated software.

PHP mail and SMTP gave this message:

We're sorry, but there seems to be a problem with our mailing system at present.

Please try again later or use an alternative method to get in touch with us.

But then again, this is a test site on an XAMPP installation.
