OK, what is the purpose of a basic module pack? To my opinion if a user download xoops, he/she can install basic modules to run a basic website.
To my opinion and knowledge a basic website 80% contains:
- News
- Content
- Links
- Download
- Contact
- Forum

With these basic bugfree compatible modules a user can create his (hers) first startoff website.
These basic modules were also the basic modules Xoops 'once upon a time' added with the core as a starting point for new users. It was a good, simple but very functional module package.

WFDownloads, on xoops.org renamed to 'repository' and in use, has also a review possibility which works separately from the xoops comments.
Unfortunately WFdownloads hasn't been updated for some time.
TDMDownloads would be the best option. Clone this TDMdownload module first. Then you need to enhance the cloned version by adding the review code from WFdownloads into it. I think then you will have a nice review module.

News: news module (hervé's news module needs updated without extra features)
Content: Publisher
Links: Mylinks (or WFlinks 107final:http://code.google.com/p/mcdonaldsstore/downloads/detail?name=wflinks_107_final.rar&can=2&q=) Wflinks 107 needs to be updated but is a good linkmodule.
Download: TDMdownload
Contact: contactmodule
Gallery: myalbumP (this was and still is a great userfriendly gallery module. Needs to be updated. See GIJoe's website:http://xoops.peak.ne.jp/) from GIJoe

To be honest a basic module pack should also contain a simple forum. Unfortunately Xoops hasn't (to my opinion) a good bugfree forummodule (newBB hasn't been updated for some time) ........

I also think that modules (news, mylinks/Wflinks, TDMdownloads) within the basic module pack can easily be cloned like publisher.
In fact, myalbumP can also be 'cloned'. At least you can install it easily several times. It was a feature GJ included.

What I would like to see is a strong (clean&bugfree) last final version of the 2.6 series. Likewise the versions (if I remember good) 1.18 and 2.0.13 where/are with good modules before Xoops started a new branche.
Secondly I would like to see strong, good working up-to-date modules for this final 2.6 version. The modules part is realy a sadness for this branche and for some time.
At the moment Xoops is like an engine (read core)without good seats, lamps, (read modules), doors, and so on. It is half a car. If you where to buy such a car I don't think you would buy it. I don't think you would even take a look at it.
The release of a future new Xoops serial/branche will take some time. Years, if you'd ask me. Due this time, to stay strong within the CMS world, we need a strong last 2.6 version core with good working up-to-date modules. Only this way we will attrack new users which Xoops, to my opinion needs. After all, new users bring also some new future developers.

News 1.67 RC 1

Please don't start merging several other modules to create a new news module.
The original News module created by Herve was and still is a great module. It 'just' needs to be updated and bug fixed.
This news module is a overall used module which shouldn't be merged with other modules, to create a new newsmodule.

Who is picking up al the test results to get this news 1.67 RC1 into a fine final running NEWS 1.67 Final module?

If the "clone" function is not built in (like in Publisher), the best way is to run "search & replace",

Cloning TDMdownloads is a 'hell'.
How difficult would it be to build in a clone feature like publisher has?
Is there a/the developer/coder who can manage to make it possible?

But please keep the credit on about.php

I totally agree on this.
Hidden css/text within the core/templates is not done. But leave the about.php intact (if included) is a must considering to my opinion.
