"dual Xeon server" with ncch-dl mobo is up and running:

"dual Xeon server" (Euro):

Asus ncch-dl "dual Xeon-board" (230,- Euro)
dual Xeon 3.0 ghz (2 * 270,-)
512 mb pc400 (4 * 50,-)
Hitachi 250 gb sata (125,-)
Netzteil Antec Antec True Power 550W (110,-)
Miditower Yeong Yang W-201 (120,-)

These parts cost about 1330,- Euro. If you are happy to run the server with only 1gb memory than you get this box for not much more than 1200,- Euro.

My first impression: it is a real powerbox, but the "raw box" is loud.

My first question: I can only run 1 sata disk + 1 sata burner on connector "sata 1" and "sata 2". I tried to add more devices on the raid connectors (after enabling sata raid -> I dont want to run raid, I just want to use the 4 additional raid connectors), but then the devices are not found. Anybody knows how to enable this "ncch-dl raid".

So if anybody wants to know more about this "dual Xeon box" I'd be happy to answer.

Zend is getting ahead with Oracle:
Zend Core for Oracle

So Zend is partnering with both SAP and Oracle, which both are members of the Eclipse board.

All right, somebody in surpass forum repeplied, that it is possible to use EMS at the host.
http://www.surmunity.com/showthread.php?p=118704#post118704

But now, having installed EMS locally, I can only register databases locally (It does not offer a web connection to my host).

my question:
Can I use the advantages of EMS also on my host (how dow I have to congigure/install ?) or is it tool for running locally.

Where is the button for the remoteconnection? If I know where the button is, I can ask my host for the service.

Looking forward for more advice for "pushing queries against database remotely".

Best regards

asche

thanks for info about EMS.

I posted this question at my host surpass.
http://www.surmunity.com/showthread.php?p=118675#post118675

Looking for a possibility of remote administration of the MySQL database for a long time already I found EMS MySQL Manager:
http://sqlmanager.net/products/mysql/manager/download

Now I would like to know if I can use this tool for my online database at surpass as well? I very much hope so, because I need alternatives to being limited to only one "query-window" (like in phpadmin).

So my requirements - as posted in www.XOOPS.org Forum as well in www.xooops.org - are:
- db-export
- table-export
- query-result-export (do a query and export result in - window or in file -< that would be great).
- possibility to work in more than one window (phpadmin allows only one active window for querying!?) with queries against database (nice would be to work on ten different "query-windows").

So hopefully surpass thinks EMS is beautiful ))

best regards asche

I would like to use a better tool for database administration (remote "web-administration" would be great, but I suppose it is not allowed by host provider, so I am also interested in tools working locally).

requirements:
- db-export
- table-export
- query-result-export (do a query and export result in - window or in file -< that would be great).
- possibility to work in more than one window (phpadmin allows only one active window for querying!?) with queries against database (nice would be to work on ten different "query-windows").

Anybody knows a good db-admin tool?

database related questions - update of bb_topics and bb_posts

I just wanted to relocate (sorry if I dont hit teh exact term, because I user german language) some postings from one forum to another forum (functionality provided by role of forum moderator?) with sql update query.

Now I have a very basic question:
Is it really necessary to hold the forum_id in table bb_topics and bb_posts? This makes updates with sql very akward, because for relocating a posting, I have to update 2 keys. To update forum_id in bb_topics should be enough (if I need to know how many posts I have in a certain forum, I can query from bb_posts with a join over bb-topics to bb_forum)?

Is it possible to "read" the function for "relocation of posts" in "post-options"? Maybe I can get my update sql by reading this function?

Some more questions:
Where can I post database related questions:
- sql syntax for updates, subselects
- Database schene of XOOPS
- Tools for reading database scheme from flatfile
- admin toole better than phpadmin (more like Oracle PL/SQL Developer if there are any)
- Projects for running XOOPS on other online databases like postgresql, maxdb and ...?

Curious to get some database related infos

Best regards asche

FAQ? What is that? )) ... yups, thanks for advice. I did not understand the filter (still dont) with setting blocks to visible or unvisable in block-administration.

So because of dependency for groups in blockadmin (yes, its a filter!) I make the block visble to anybody and just crank of the whole block for a special group in group-administration?

better blocking groupwise ))

So how can I set the bl.... filter, so that registered users can see "who is online", and anonymous users can not see?

I can only set block in block administration to visible (yes/no). When I change it for one group, it is also changed for other group. ... did'not stumble about it before.

I looked in older XOOPS system and there the anonymous user group does not have this block at all, while it is set visible for the rest of the users.

Must I remove the block from anonymous users or can I handle this with the visibility seetings?

I checked it on a different site, same thing:
- what I like: when I grant block to "registered user", the webmaster will be granted the right as well.
- what I dislike: when I revoke block (like "new members" from group "registered users", the webmaster loses this right as well.

So how can I revoke block from "new members", but still see it as the webmaster?

email-notification is not possible for users email-address with domain-name like anyuser@mobilfunk-volksbegehren.de?

I am trying to use email-notification from internal Forum in XOOPS-System to external email-address of user. So maybe it is a problem of emails within the domain (www.mobilfunk-volksbegehren.de) of XOOPS-System?

The user can set these notification options himself and then should receive an notification via email for every posting that is subsribed to.

My Problem is:
it works allright for users with email-address outside of the domain, like my@personal-domain.de
it does not work for users with emails within the domain like anyuser@mobilfunk-volksbegehren.de

domain-name-provider:
is not at surpass
at the domain-provider I set an email redirect with catch-all sending all emails to the webmaster@www.mobilfunk-volksbegehren.de
but maybe this catch-all doesnot like this sort of email-notification?
I'll ask my provider )) anymind has an idea?

can I use redirects of cpanel-surpass, even when I am using external domain-provider (who maybe does not support this email-notification)?

thanks for advice and greetings

asche

plz: see my posting at surpass hosting:
http://www.surmunity.com/showthread.php?p=117887#post117887

ps: can I set email-notification as default for poster so that the writer of a posting gets an email-notification for sure?
