Have you tried changing the xoops_config conf_name value of debug_mode from 0 to 1?

This will set the XOOPS system up for printing any php errors it might be experiencing.

You would need to edit this value in phpMyAdmin or MySQL command line.

Once changed, you could go to the front page again too see if it prints an error, which would give you a lead to follow on fixing this.

If you have already tried this, then sorry for not helping.

thanks for the link JasonMR!

There is absolutly no spyware associated with xoops.

It does however have a high level of security and usually depends on cookies, which can flag some security software.

cookies are not harmfull, but since they are considered a possible way to track info, they are flagged by default in some software like AdAware.

Most sites use cookies that have logins, so this is a user side issue where the user need to know to allow cookies from the sites they want to use.

Also, spyware is usually contained in free windows Desktop software. This does not apply to XOOPS since it is server software.

Hope that helps clear it up.

That sounds like a great idea.
I know of alot of site owners who need this.

What version of AWS or ECS is AMZStore using?

Yeah, I had a problem releasing xStore (an amazon module I built 6 months ago) because they released a new API that rendered all the code not very usefull... Along with several other problems, XOOPS admin block problems and the not so fun XOOPS admin headaches, I could never release xStore, which the public could use properly.

So it makes sense that there are no amazon modules yet... I know of a guy who was working on a XOOPS amazon module, so lets hope his efforts make it to public release. Hes a good programmer, so we might be in luck.

I just hope amazon doesnt change it all again like they have 2-3 times already.

They are evolving, but at the developers expense :(

If we can get enough donations in a pool, I would love to build an amazon module for the community.

Also, I can hook ANY website up with an amazon addon, my team, wrote... I dont wanna post the URL here, so msg me if interested.

It works with ANY site including XOOPS site and it is based on Amazon Web Services 3.0 (they are up to 4.0 now) ... but amazon has stated that they will keep it alive as long as possible... also, my solution is currently featured on Amazon.com... so you can find it there if you have an associates account.

Meanwhile, I have started a new Amazon XOOPS module based on Amazon ECS 4.0 using Rest (HTML over HTTP), but simply do not have time to work on it at this time.

I wish there was a XOOPS site that gets alot of traffic that would guaranteed to make money if they offered over 2,000,000 amazon products or maybe just books or video games... Then they could sponsor the project and and maybe we could release it to the XOOPS community... but alas, all the money in USA has gone to destructive efforts and now everyone is broke, oh well, life goes on.

My belief is that XOOPS and money can mix, with the right people involved. Too bad alot of people here think that open source free means no money... There are alot of XOOPS projects being hindered by this concept....

Free in Open Source means free to do whatever with the code, it does not apply to price.

Actual active sites with a large community would benefit greatly if good XOOPS module developers didnt have to work at Subway or the local construction yard.

Oh well, im just rambling on, but I hope I have enlightened a few. its not about money, its about surviving.

meanwhile, I must go find a second job delivering pizzas maybe.

Would you like extra sauce with that, sir?
We will be there in a half hour-45 minutes.

Thank you for ordering with us. Have a great day.

(Do i sound bitter, naaah, not me)

Hope we can work this problem out...I am not the only developer/programmer being hindered right now.

Best Regards,

Personally, I would dump your host before dumping xoops.

Not every host is setup up properly for dynamic sites.

There are more problems with misconfigured hosting services than there are with bad XOOPS modules.

From what I know of the history of AMS and the people behind it, its is a great XOOPS module, with many hours of testing behind it.

Hope that provides a better view of your issues.

I gurantee you if you use the right host, things will work better.

Well, I havent used it yet and cant say it perfectly addresses your issue, but in XOOPS admin there is a Mail Preferences section. (under System Admin|Preferences|Mail Setup)

As far as I know, I think its possible to put in YOUR SMTP account so then your XOOPS site will actually send mail as YOU.

Here is a copy paste of the options list:

FROM address
FROM name
FROM user

When the system sends a private message, which user should appear to have sent it?
Mail delivery method

Method used to deliver mail. Default is "mail", use others only if that makes trouble.
Path to sendmail

Path to the sendmail program (or substitute) on the webserver.
SMTP host(s)

List of SMTP servers to try to connect to.
SMTPAuth username

Username to connect to an SMTP host with SMTPAuth.
SMTPAuth password

Password to connect to an SMTP host with SMTPAuth.

SO setting the mail delivery method to SMTP and then listing YOUR smtp server and theoretically, you can solve the problem your having on your current host. (btw not all hosts have this problem)

I dont know alot about SMTPAuth, so i would try SMTP.

I did try this b4, didnt get it to work, but only spent like 5 minutes trying.

I think this could be explored more and tested by you to solve your issue.

You might even just be able to supply a from name using PHPmail() and avoid the nobody problem. it would need to be tested by you on your host, since my host allows any mail sent by phpmail().

Hopefully, someone here can enlighten us on these options and how,why they work.

You didnt upset me

I was just curious about what profile types meant...

did you mean like maybe having a profile for a venue, fan or label?

that might actually be a good thing...

right now, the profile is aimed toward an artist...

I will think about adding other profile types.

I also just wanted to explain about overdoing the scope... once the module is at 1.0 I think we can maybe add other profile types.
