I was going to post that but...I just fixed it.

For the benefit of future searchers, here's what I did. I ran in PHP Debug mode and discovered a problem with the system_block_comments.html (db:system_block_comments.html not found or something). The fix was to go into module administration and update the system module. All the data is still there, etc, it just updated some of the core files. Works for me now.

Thanks for offering to help jensclas.

Just an update...I installed "userpage" and it's working great. Thanks for a great module!

XOOPS Version: 2.2.3
Module Name/Version: System
Web Server Software (Apache/IIS/Other): Apache
Operating System: Linux
Theme you are using: default
Custom template: (Yes/No) No
MySQL Debug Messages: no errors
A full description of the issue:

My install has been working very well for the past several months and the only bugs have been relatively minor. One of those bugs is the "Recent Comments" block. It simply won't display on any of my pages. I'm not an entire newbie and have tried all kinds of things and search google and XOOPS for help. I know it could be any number of things but I'm hoping someone will say "hey try this" and maybe it will fix it. I tested by adding comments (as a test user) but the page I have the "Recent Comments" block on doesn't show anything. In the months my site has been up, nothing has ever showed in that block. Any ideas?

Here's a snippet in the MySQL debug session showing the query calls. Seems okay to me and no errors are present:

SELECT * FROM L43BS1_xoopscomments WHERE (com_status = '2') ORDER BY com_created DESC LIMIT 0, 3
( 0.000792)
SELECT * FROM L43BS1_modules WHERE hascomments = '1'
( 0.000706)
SELECT * FROM L43BS1_users u, L43BS1_user_profile p WHERE u.uid = p.profileid AND uid = '85' LIMIT 0, 1
( 0.000646)
SELECT f.*, s.tpl_source FROM L43BS1_tplfile f LEFT JOIN L43BS1_tplsource s ON s.tpl_id=f.tpl_id WHERE (tpl_tplset = 'default' AND tpl_file = 'system_block_comments.html') ORDER BY tpl_refid
( 0.000654)
SELECT * FROM L43BS1_tplfile WHERE (tpl_tplset = 'default' AND tpl_file = 'system_block_comments.html') ORDER BY tpl_refid
( 0.000637)
SELECT f.*, s.tpl_source FROM L43BS1_tplfile f LEFT JOIN L43BS1_tplsource s ON s.tpl_id=f.tpl_id WHERE (tpl_tplset = 'default' AND tpl_file = 'system_block_comments.html') ORDER BY tpl_refid
( 0.000491)

Thanks

I hadn't...didn't even know it existed. Thanks! I'll give it a try.

BTW, how come when I search for "userpage" on xoops.org it doesn't show up in the module repository? I've come across several modules this same way. A search here yieled nothing, I ask around and find a really cool module that's not even on the official XOOPS list. Just curious, that's all.

In addition to what has already been mention, add an ICRA rating. ICRA (Internet Content Rating Association) is a non-profit international group that offers a voluntary content rating system. It's free for website owners as well as site browsers.

For website owners/webmaster - you rate your own site with regard to what kind of things it contains, such as vulgarities, nudity, etc. You're then given a small meta tag to place in your code.

For site browsers - you can voluntarily install an extension in IE and I think Firefox that allows you as a parent or otherwise to turn off access to sites containing whatever you find offensive. When your child (or anyone else using your computer) tries to visit the website they are asked for the content override password. Otherwise they are denied even seeing anything from that site on the screen.

The thing I like about ICRA is it's totally voluntary for both parties and totally free. But it only works if people use the ICRA plugin so add a link so they can get it.

Is this administrator managing the site for you? I mean are you paying him/her to manage your site?

Otherwise, even if what you're asking isn't difficult maybe the website owner manages the site when he/she has some free time and maybe they're busy right now. I have several sites that I don't make money with and manage in my spare time. Lately I haven't had a whole lot of spare time so the site suffers.

It's also possible what you're asking is beyond the experience and knowledge of the website manager. XOOPS is pretty easy to setup so just about anyone can do it. But modifying it is another story. Some modules break other modules, you have to be aware of version issues and more. If someone just uploaded XOOPS and customized it some, I wouldn't assume they're comfortable enough to do what you're asking.

Lastly, consider offering to help. Do some leg work on what would be involved. Instead of demanding the manager do this for you, ask nicely, be very patient and offer to help out. You might get better results.

Good luck

I searched and couldn't find anything. I want to provide my members with the ability to create a little page about themselves. I have a car club so it would be nice to offer them some easy fields to fill out with their car stats (year, model, engine, axles, etc.) and maybe a place to add a few pictures. Even better would be a way to automatically attach it to their profile page so if someone clicks their username, they get their member page/member homepage/about me or whatever you want to call it.

I'm using XOOPS 2.2

exbanious just came out with a cool one that would work for me but he/she (sorry, don't know your gender) hasn't released the module yet.

Here's an example of what exbanious did and mostly what I'm looking for:

Article module "no input file specified"

For some unknown reason, all links to articles posted via the Article module on my XOOPS 2.2.3 install came up "no input file specified". I could edit the articles but they didn't show. I wasn't able to fix it myself but dealt with the problem by turning off "Enable URL rewrite" in the Article Preference - General Setting area. Not that important to me anyway. It was working before with that enabled but oh well.

Article module v 0.83
Xoops 2.2.3

So not really a question, I just wanted to post this for those searching in the future.

xcgallery documentation?

I have xcgallery working well on my XOOPS 2.2.3 site and was wondering how to do something. It occured to me that there is no documentation with the module and Google and Xoops.com searches yield almost no information on how to use this module. Does anyone know of a documentation page or site out there?

I was trying to see if there was a way for people to easily add pics in their galleries to CBB forum topics so they don't keep uploading pictures they want to post in the forum.

And now for a little rant...

I love XOOPS and the modules I have installed. I'm a geek so I didn't mind tweaking here and there to get things to work. However with Xoops, where has the community gone? I don't see a whole lot of collaboration anymore. Modules have no docs, links aren't working, popular projects seem suddenly abandoned. Is XOOPS dying? How come module creators don't setup a wiki or something? All the work I've done to integrate modules, I'd be happy to share things I've learned for the benefit of future installers.

...end rant
