It would be a major step forward for dictionary/glossary users if the premier OSS s/w prog, Glossword could be wrapped within XOOPS - preferably as a module.

I contacted the developer (Dmitry Shilnikov) to see if there was a way of integrating the two programmes in some way.

I quote his response below:

Quote:
The problem with XOOPS is that it is so poor that it does not work on my local machine with php 5.0.3 (in comparation to invision board, or mambo, for example) and XOOPS does not suport UTF-8 (as like others).
:(

I tried to install XOOPS 2.0.10 and Xoops-2.1.1, but they are both unusable. 2.1.1 even did not installed correctly. At least, on my computer.

As soos as XOOPS will support php 5 and UTF-8, as Glossword, I could return to the integration questions.

As you can tell, he wasn't very impressed with the current incarnation of XOOPS :) But I was under the impression that XOOPS *did* support PHP-5 *and* could be configured to use UTF-8. Have I misunderstood something or has Dmitry some other problem?

Sounds like an odd request but I use a programme written in php (uses its own MySQL d/base) that is impossible to integrate with XOOPS in any way.

I know we can wrap XOOPS around html sites and am wondering if it's possible to do it with a php prog?

If would make life **so** much simpler for me if it could be done!

On my site Online Dictionary of Playground Slang I have a strange issue that I only just noticed.

I made the IPB Forum module visible on the top page - and now everything in the centre blocks (outside the forum) have centered themselves!

The logo has also centered itself.

On all other pages it works fine... it's *only* on the 'forum' page.!

I reloaded the theme 'just in case' - still the same. I thought it might be forum instruction but can't find anything inside that would globally affect the page it's on :)

I can't honestly see how it could be the forum software btw. The same IPB forum is installed on another site and that one works fine - no centering etc. In addition, it actually *works* if I try the X2T theme! But *only* with that theme! :)

I have not a clue about what could possible be wrong. I can't see how it can be either the theme *or* the forum since it *does* work with at least one other theme and works fine on the other site! I've looked everywhere I can think of looking...

..... any suggestions??

I have no experience with those ads but I think that most people just put the provided code in a custom block and show it like any other block. It would also be easy to manually put the code somewhere in your theme (like the current banner is done). You wouldn't need to use the banner system since the google ads handles the rotation and other banner like duties already. You only need to know where you want to show the ads and put the code in the right place using proper html.

Ahh... sorry... I have this vague memory of XOOPS having 'issues' with Javascript so assumed it might be a problem.

btw - I don't expect to make a fortune... on another site I've had 43k impressions... and 'earned' $27 :)

Does anybody know a way to limit the number of news headings, that are shown in magic news block for freecontents

When you use the block, magic news at present, it shows 20 odd news headings and i wish to half this

Where abouts can i edit it i had a look through, yet can't find it easily labeled

Any ideas?

As far as I can tell there is no command in FreeContent directing it to return a specific number of headlines

Once you've set an 'offset' number, it simply returns whatever else is on the page regardless of how many headlines there may be.

Some news sites return few headlines, some many.

I'm using IPB quite happily but I'd like to be able to have a 'display' above the main body of the board showing things like 'top stories', 'most replied to post' or similar.

I've looked thru the menus and can't find anything that will let me do it from the inside. Is there a feature or option I've not come across or is it simply not possible??

Go to IPB Admin Control Panel

Select XOOPS BB Module > Common Settings

Click on the Submit Changes button (you don't need to actually change a setting) just hit the button.

Now check your board and hopefully you should see the poster's names instead of two dots.

Wow... thanks

Still isn't logging IP addresses tho... is that doable??

Have installed the Invision Power Board - which looks and feels great!

But it doesn't always show who posted what in the menus. For example neither the "Topic Starter" not the "Posted By" show names. Is there an admin item I've not checked or is this a limitation of the port?

It also seems to not be logging IP's...

Board is installed at Australian Opinion
