To date, I have not come across a Trek related theme. I have been using XOOPS for over a year and a half and I'm always on the prowl for new themes, or ideas. If there were a trek theme out there, chances are I would know about it.

Although my site is Science/Trek related, I purposely tried to stay away from Trek themes, because there are so many of them out there (in general). Lately I have considered doing something similar to http://techspecs.acalltoduty.com/ in look and feel. My site is already geared with these colors, and I have made two custom banners with their graphics. I was permitted by them to use the graphics because I know them, and submitted both the banners to them for use if they should decide to use them. (I belong to this role play group btw, so it was much easier to contact the right people)

Probably one of the easiest ways to make a Trek theme is edit a dark colored theme to your tastes. All that would really need to be done is to edit the graphics to give them their rounded LCARS look and colors along with a few table layout designs if needed.

Either way, I would be interested to know about what you find or design. In the future I plan on creating a sub-domain for my science and trek related materials exclusively, which might have common elements from the ACTD family of sites.

For those of you interested in knowing more about Star Trek: A call to Duty (formed in 1995), please head over to www.acalltoduty.com to read more about the game. ACTD is a role play game done over Chat networks, newsgroups (forums) and Play by eMail style.

There is always room for more with over 350 members and a huge team of staff making ACTD one of the most largest and accurate sims on the net today. People who like super indestructable Sovereign class ships with Borg technology need not apply. ACTD is as REAL as it gets!

(If they find out I called it a Sim, i'll get shot, so please SHHHH!!)

I'm not sure how to display blocks outside of the areas where they are normally displayed. The only thing the above code is good for, is for insertion into a table into your custom or modified theme.html files for more customisation without the use of an entire block and it's code.

If I am following you correctly, do you want to just have a simple login option along the top of your page, and a user name for users that are logged in? If so, then just copy paste that code into a table in your theme.html file, which will be in the root of the thmes folder under the same name, if you follow what I mean.

The code I showed you isn't block code, it's the content in which the block uses to display the desired results, which in this case is the login area. Although minor, there is a difference with the terminology.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Insert this code on a single line in your table on the top of your page where you want it to be displayed. I think this will work, I havn't actually tried it yet.

<{if $xoops_isuser}> Welcome, <a href="<{$xoops_url}>/user.php"><{$xoops_uname}></a>
<{else}>
<a href="<{$xoops_url}>/register.php">Register!</a> or <{/if}>
<{if $xoops_isuser}> <a href="<{$xoops_url}>/user.php?op=logout">logout</a>
<{else}>
<a href="<{$xoops_url}>/user.php">log in</a> <{/if}>

Cheers!

Umm, can I have a Twinki Module? If I feel like a snack, I just click a link in the module and a Twinkie pops out. I'm sure the development of more options can be added later. Like, Coke and a Smile, Bun and a Blintz or Bong and Shmoke?

Seriously, I can't think of anything to add, because it's all been mentioned. Some really great ideas.

Cheers

Mmmm, Beer Module....

Oddly the site in question has just started generating

Fatal error: Unable to connect to database in /public_html/php/class/database/databasefactory.php on line 34

It's a worry

This happened to me last night when I changed my password to access host account. I had problems changing the password back, so I did a backup of the SQL DB, uploaded the intall files and the mainfile.php and reinstalled overtop with the new account password. After that I ijust dropped the backup DB into the new DB Tables and all was well again.

I learned a lesson here. When installing multiple XOOPS under the same domain, be sure to create new DB user with admin privs. Using one user/pass for all DB's can cause some headaches, like the one I experienced when I changed my hosting account password.

My webhost has Fantastico and it installed it. Everything was fine but now it's not.

Quick tip on Fantastico. If you need to update Xoops, you may run into permission problems becasue the owner is actually the server, not the user (you) I had to reinstall into my site root to get full control over the file permissions. The problem I had was that I could not over write files via ftp that were owned by the server. I had to manualy delete any files that were to be updated and 'then' upload the new files. It was an oddity that really irked me with my host and Fantastico. Plus, Fantastico will not allow you to install in your web root, it has to be in a sub directory, like yoursite.com/xoops, which is pretty hard for me to live with.

Anywho...

Welcome to the community & Happy Xoop-ing!

I feel your pain, and I would hate to loose the account I have been using for well over five years. To this day, I only get three to four junk mailings a month through this account.

When using things over the net for account creation, do what I did and go to hotmail and create a spam account just for logging into and registering at sites that require it. I have no less then five main email accounts that I have been using for quite sometime, and none of them recieve spam because I don't use them for anything other then personal mail. My hotmail is the ultimate catch-all spam account that I don't even have to check, except for registration confirmation that I can later ignore or delete at will. I don't even look at the rest and I tell people on my MSN not to send mail to that account if they want me to read it.

Anyway, just felt like sharing since I know what it's like to have a long standing email account.

almost all your themes are the same design, just with different graphics

You have a valid point, but I would also like to add that it shows his individual style. I know from the many great theme makers out there, that if there is a particular stlye, look, or feel I am after, I merely have to remember the artists name and go to his/her site.

Montisarts themes are great for one thing, while Imago is good for something completely different in look and feel. To each their own I guess, but each contributer has a signature style that I can rely on for future development of my sites.

Montisarts new direction has allowed me to consider using many of his themes at one time for my users to select the look they want while making very little changes. His themes are fun and light and I like that for certain sites that I am developing because of the nature of their content. His work is good for game clans, graphics developers and the like. Certainly, there are a great many dark themes out there that fade in comparison to his works.

Imago is clean, bright and professional. Perfect for news, article and review sites. His layouts are extremely simple to work with and allow me to present the sites I am using his themes on with a very efficient and clean interface. Modifying his files has been a true pleasure. My presentations with his themes are easy to view for sites that require a lot of reading with less distraction.

I appreciate both these mens talents and contributions, for they have each saved me hours of work and frustration by making themes available that are easy to modify to my own tastes and needs.

Keep up the great work!

I'm using xoopsgallery on my next site. It seems to have the functionality I need and closly matched what you have stated above. You can see it over at http://family.stewdio.net where I have just completed making the categories. The site should be going live for next week as a gift to my family for Christmas. Please ignore the incompleteness of the site as it is still under development, and it's content will be purly made by the members, not me.

Anyway, hopefully this will demonstrate to you how I managed to achieve the similar goals we have.

Cheers
