I have one suggestion to add to the XOOPSiquette - I don't think personal messages sent between members should be posted in the public forums.

PM = Personal Message.

Edit: Posting your *own* PMs is ok, just not other peoples.

One of the main things I am concerned with is personal attacks being made in the forums - not just language, but any form of blatant disrespect and venom. I do not think this kind of behaviour should be tolerated at all - that sort of thing *should* be shut down by moderators IMO.

Please note that I am absolutely *not* in favour of censoring ideas or criticism. I just think people should be able to express their views *without* getting personal, and they should offer criticism in a respectful manner.

Anyway, thanks for reviewing the XOOPSiquette, it is a good idea and I appreciate the open/facilitated dicussion. Proof that the community can work together positively when offered a chance - and when they think people are listening.

A couple of these things are already in:

You can. Clone the default template set and you will find you can edit any template (the default set are protected to prevent people messing up).

Now that you know how to edit templates, you can change this to suit yourself :)

The (legal) issue with PHP MySpace Gold is that they removed the credits of the original authors from some of the code and put their own in.

Kren 2, I would appreciate it if you could look at their 'online manual' and provide some feedback on whether they have taken similar liberties with the XOOPS Operations Guide. If they have, I may take a look at whether they are in breach of the licensing conditions for that as well.

Hi BlueStocking

There will also be a wiki (html), but we could probably take community contributions in whatever format people were comfortable submitting in, and copy to other formats as necessary. I'll put it up for discussion.

I will also post the materials for the old docs shortly, sorry it slipped my mind.

There was a proposal to merge the documentation team with a few other things like news to make a combined 'communication team'. I am not clear if this proposal has been formally accepted or not.

However, in practical terms there is a team and it is actively developing documentation. You are most welcome to start contributing to the joint effort until such time as the formalities are sorted out.

We have a work forum on www.xoopsinfo.com. Please register as a member there and then contact tom. I will also let him know you are intersted.

I like Yahoo's domain service (available through their small business page). It is fairly cheap and has a simple and easy to use control panel.

One negative however, is that is extremely hard to transfer a domain to a new owner through Yahoo (they are actually a reseller, the underlying service is provided by Melbourne IT but there is poor coordination between the two companies), so if you think you will want to sell your domain name later, go somewhere else. But personal use is great.

I tried Go Daddy and had no problems with their service, except for one thing: They have *so much* advertising on their site (even after you log in!) that it drove me nuts.

The best service I ever found was Network Solutions, who helped me recover my work domain name after our registrar vanished. Really amazingly helpful - but not cheap.

Catz's run for a Project Leader has totally bad timing, and creates more problems than solves.

DJ is new in this and I am OK with the progress so far. Plus I have a full respect for him for all his work on the modules. So until he fails, I don't see a need to spend energy of so many people on discussions like this.

I fully agree. I think phppp deserves a chance to work some reforms and that his general approach is a good one, ie:

1. Establish temporary leadership to design a new, open and transparent management structure for xoops.

2. Hold an open process for recruiting key positions / teams

3. Transfer authority to the new management structure and step down.

These steps are necessary to establish a new system that will prevent abuse of power and protect the right of community to contribute to the project.

Letting the next leadership design their own terms of reference, or act with no rules at all, is asking for trouble.

Please wait until an official selection process opens for the permanent position of Project Leader, and then by all means go for your life - in a fair competition with anyone else that wants to apply.

We *need* to finalise the new management structure and establish rules/terms of reference for important positions *before* we start electing anyone:

* What positions / groups will there be?
* What are their terms of reference?
* How will candidates be selected? By who?
* How will their performance be reviewed?
* If they don't perform, how can they be removed from office?
* How will the system encourage and protect community contributions?

I want to see some rules, written down, that will commit anyone and everyone that wants to stand for election, to run XOOPS in an open, accountable and transparent manner. Please don't ask me to take anything on faith, I've run out of that.

Yours from the 'military democracy' of Thailand,

Madfish.

[Edit: Just to be clear, this post is about a principle, and nothing personal against anyone. I really believe we need to sort out the governance, urgently].
