For the benefit of all the XOOPS members let us post our solutions.

Here is a simple solution: Insert a small block in any suitable page and make the block visible only to the admin/webmaster. In the block you can place a link to the admin section [and any other information which should be visible only to the admin]

Download this file: Anatomy of the default theme.

For your menu you will find it under CSS at

Main Menu : Line 68-72:

Seems to me you have removed access for yourself [Webmaster] to the admin block.

It logs in alright and I can see all the user info. [including your hotmail account id ]

But the problem is it cannot access the admin section....even when I try by entering the admin.php to the url

I dont know how to fix it.... maybe you can try reinstalling XOOPS afresh on a different folder instead of waiting it out for a few more months.

You can control the display heirarchy of the block by giving appropriate numerical weights to them.

Go to block admin and see in the Weights column. Usually all are set at 0 [zero] as default. The block or module with the lower number appears on the top and the highest at the bottom. Choose numbers like 20 30 40 so you can add more blocks in the middle if required without renumbering all of them again.

Its best to ask your hosting provider to move the site for you. Most of them do it for free or for a small fee. Sent a request to the support department of your hosting provider.

btw thats a very nice site you have bought...has good potential for developing into a popular site.

I think a simple solution would be to use blocks and allocate permissions for different user groups.

Create blocks with different content for different user groups. Each block will be customised to suit the user group. Example: Block 1 = For adult members, BLock 2 = For children and Block 3 = For grandchildren, Block 4 = For anonymous visitors etc. Set the same weight for all if you want them in the same position for all user groups.

Now set these blocks to appear in the content module. Give appropriate weight for the blocks and content module to make them appear in the order required.

Apart from general group permissions for access to the blocks you can also set them to appear in specific pages in the content module [by going to block admin and specifying visibility] This will be useful for disabling the blocks for specific pages [for example you can disable the image rich block for inner pages for faster loading or reclaiming the space for different content]

Note: removing all borders and having same color background will make the blocks and content module pages appear seamless on the same page

I am using Xdirectory with multiple categories.

A search with a multiple selection of categories would be useful.

This is a must read for the new users of Xoops.

Anatomy of the default theme

Some tips from my experience:
Just dump any theme you select from the Themes Library in the themes folder. Next when you login to XOOPS Admin section / Preferences you will see the theme name showing. Change it and reload the homepage.Done.

You can also easily play around with the default theme. Just go to the themes folder and make a duplcate of the default theme. Name it whatever you want...like MyTheme. Go inside this folder and open style.css in NotePad and here you can change anything you like. [Before you start read up on style.css in the link I have given above]

Same way you can take any theme and modify it with few changes to suit your website look and feel.

I think as long as there is a folder in the modules folder it shows up as a module. You just have to uninstall the module in Admin first and then remove the folder completely in the modules folder of your Xoops.

The site loads fine for the url www.mydomain.com/html [where the 'html' folder contains the XOOPS files.]

What I want is www.mydomain.com to open the XOOPS site.

At present I can only think of redirecting it but I was wondering what is the correct solution.
