Let it snow on your XOOPS website!

Hello guys!

To get your site a bit more in the christmas/holidays mood, I've added some snow on my websites, and since everyone likes some snow this time of the year, here is how to do it yourself

This way doesn't require any module or hack and gives a nice effect (similar effect can be seen on my blog http://www.vampiretrix.com - same script but other config)

Download the files from http://www.nightquest.me/snow/snow.zip . Extract them and upload them to your site. (I uploaded them into root/snow).

Open /script/snowstorm.js and search for the line

var imagePath = 'image/snow/'; // relative path to snow images (including trailing slash)

and type in front of the image/snow the location of the files in your XOOPS installation (so, http://www.my.site/snow/image/snow in my case).
Save this and upload it to your site. (you can also modify general settings in this script, like if the snow should follow the mouse).

Then, go to your site, log in to the admin and open your blocks (http://www.my.site/modules/system/admin.php?fct=blocksadmin) and scroll down to "Add a new block". Change visible in to "All Pages", give it a random name (I named it Snow). Add this to the content:

Change the http://www.my.site/snow/script/snowstorm.js to your site and change the group access and select all groups. Then press submit.

Go check your homepage, you should see the snow falling now

If you want to let the snow stop falling (eg for people with slower pc's, add this line somewhere to your site:

<a href="#" onclick="snowStorm.stop();return false">Stop the snowa>

. If people click that link, the snow will stop falling.

Mor.Pho.GEN.e.sis 3.0 : The imago takes flight

Originally we had eggs that we had given Leostotch and Skalpa with Zetareticuli theme, then the larva Mor.Pho.GEN.e.sis by snow77, and after successive moults the larva to reach the nymph, meanwhile, I adapted zetareticuli to give you Zetagenesis now as the Xoops core.

After 3 ½ years of a process of evolving from the XOOPS Design Team and a few tens of thousands of themes online based on this template theme, an Imago comes in the Laboratory XooFoo.org finally to extricate itself from its shell !!

Version 3.0 Mor.Pho.GEN.e.sis fruit of maturity, and possesses a wealth of features and options modularity and customization, which will delight any Xoops user by allowing him to release his creativity with minimal knowledge of languages html, css, javascript or php.
On the first "confused" after a short study you find that it has been designed from a simple logic and is easily adjustable from only a few files.

Installation

Unpack the archive and upload all the folders and files directly into the folder 'themes' of your site

Information

Note 1: To seize the opportunity to add blocks in the footer or the home box (under the header), you must save the file "function.block.php" in yourSite / class / smarty / xoops_plugins /
Note 2: To enjoy the possibility of adding an insert content in the header in home page, you must verify or fill the following line in the file xo_homepage.html: <(if! Xoops_isuser & $ & $ smarty . server.PHP_SELF == '/ index.php')>

if your site is at the root of the server, put '/ index.php',
if '/ nomdudossier / index.php'

If you have difficulty finding the path, add "() $ smarty.server.PHP_SELF> first line of this file and the information displayed, then remove the line and comments on issues of security

Note 3: You can disable or enable different files (include) or subject area (columns left and right, high and low blocks) by changing values in the file xo_thm_parameters.html
Note 4: Documentation is being drafted and should be published in the first quarter of 2010. But by then, many tips have been published on this theme on the Xoops forum (here or Xoops France).

Editing XOOPS theme without opening "theme.html"

Making a theme to work for a module has never been easy, and customizing a theme without the hassle has never been easy either!

But this is about to change, as you will see in the screencast that follows.

This new Theme developed by Apex Themes allows you to customize several areas in it without having to edit your "theme.html" or to upload anything via FTP.

Furthermore it shows how easy it is to use the Defacer module by Trabis at its full extent again without having to edit the "theme.html" file, thanks to Defacer's ability of using blocks anywhere in your theme and templates (XOOPS 2.4 and PHP5 only)

With this module you are capable of managing multiple domains for your website there are many core hacks with this module but it makes managing your site dynamically and easily for your environment.

It is modelled off the System module, so you can easily expand it and make structural changes. There is a forum for this module should you wish to look at the hacks to get it up and running Forum on Multisite Module

To implement this module requires some core hacks, this is more replacement of or ammendments to include the multisite modules class library using the xoops_getmodulehandler function. Most of the function calls even criterias are the same.

NNTP Protocol newsgroup browser for XOOPS 2. This newsgroup browser allows you to connect your xoops to any NNTP Protocol news service, including mime type parser and clear text browsing.

You can cross post, reply and make new posts to your Usenet or NNTP service on your own server. Based on PNews the GNU PHP newsgroup browser this title will allow you to access some of the older areas of the internet before the website.

Newgroups are the orginal forums, these are available to most people and offer the enticement of older areas and protocols of the internet.

Xoops has a usenet area and we would like you to connect to it just add xoops* to your groups.
