Personally, I've just recently moved to XOOPS from Postnuke. What I liked about XOOPS where the extremely helpful and forthcoming community. I did look at several others, and since I don't consider myself to be a programmer (not a good one, anyway :)) the thing that attracted me to XOOPS where the easy install, the community and developers, and that it seemed easier to customize than most.

I think these qualities makes it stand out amongst the cms crowd. For me, as a non programmer at least, these were the factors that made me choose Xoops.

i think it needs a bit more work, shouldn't be at 0.9.9, but definitely a good direction

navigation is still a chore

I used the online demo of Xaraya and XOOPS at the CMS site and I like XOOPS admin and navigation feel better. I think Xaraya are heading a right direction, but some area like the admin, download and weblinks need some work in the layout area.

Please watch your language here. We're a friendly community and we like to keep it that way

Please - not that kind of language here. Especially not, when talking about other CMS's.

We don't run a competition about being the best CMS - although we do our best to make XOOPS the best available (just like the Xaraya devs try to make Xaraya the best, the Mambo devs try to make Mambo the best etc.) and we most certainly have great respect for the work accomplished by the Xaraya team.

They are doing things their way and we do things our way - I believe that XOOPS' way is the best, but Xaraya does have some good things, which could be good to have in XOOPS also.

48, actually

(I did read is as joking, but unfortunately not everyone would understand it and some could take offense, which we do not like. We have respect for other systems and hope in turn to gain respect from them)

In May, I will be writing a University project regarding XOOPS and the Open Source CMS's, in which I will compare XOOPS to other CMS's.

I have so far decided to compare with the following CMS's:
Xaraya
Drupal
Mambo

I will of course publish the report for you to read.

Would like to take a look on your comparation
And here it is: XOOPS Comparison

It is aimed at technical-minded people with less to none experience with PHP CMS's and it is only first half of a report, which will subsequently be a development report of an enhancement of a XOOPS feature (or development of a new feature) so please bear with me, if it looks unfinished.

not to nitpick, but PHP-Nuke isn't the father of all cmses... wouldn't that title goto the father of phpnuke? i can't remember the name of that cms, but everyone i talk to says phpnuke branched from that, and it rolled from there

[edit]
you also say Quote:
The PostNuke developers have as goal

i would think that should be 'a'

heh, if you want, i'll keep on through the whole paper, proofing it. just trying to provide input since you're gonna be graded

Thanks for the article.
Would it be more informative to compare the server load for each CMS.
Though it is not in your objectives and the criteria is qute hard to make.
