Ah,
Well according to some research Ive just done...
Ive concluded that just because you installed PHP 4.0 and higher it does not mean that CuRL is enabled.

While by default it is present...
There are some small but necassary steps to take to enable it. SO, Im guessing thats wht my problem is.

Will be talking with my web hoster soon....
for those who would like to read more about Curl try this....
Information
about Curl(cURL) and PHP

Anyways hope that helps anyone experienceing the same probs...Im gonna work on it and see if thats the case...

Re: FreeContent Webdigest v.3.0 Final

I've got some pretty fundimental questions about freecontent. ie. what is it?

I get that it can take news feeds from other sites and present them on the XOOPS site.

I also get that the digest feature should be able to summarise content at another site and present it on your own.

What I don't get is that I looked at http://www.gaining-mass.com and there draven had a free signup for email etc page which seemed to be loading from an external site but displaying under freecontent. That seemed pretty cool that you could load external content (as if perhaps in a frame set) but recode the links to appear internal to your site. Or Perhaps I have this totally wrong....

Looking at Draven's site again maybe he's just uploaded some html pages he's tailored to this section. But if so why not use wfsections or similar for this pretty simple task?

thanks

Andrew

Freecontent 'started' as a html - wrapper and it still is a good one.
Visit the website of wjue, there you can find more info
or do a search for freecontent here.

I use Freecontent because my WFsections is used on as an article management for my 4 sections. To just throw in a single page it would end up in one of my article categories and be publiched in my article section. Or I'd have to create a whole new category, didn't make sense.

I have a few pages on my site, like privacy policy, that I just make basic HTML pages and wrap them. It's better for how I have my site structured. I only use wfsections for my articles, nothing else.

any easy guides out there for regex? I need to block three links appearing in digest.

this is the example I'm working on:-

©2004 Associated New Media

Power shower: Switch your gas and electricity

Phones: Find a cheaper home line

- how do i get rid of these links (they don't appear together - and they're not the first ones that would have been easy)?

To filter out "©2004 Associated New Media" just use
2004 Associated New Media
as regex.

or if there is several:

something unwanted
another unwanted

regex = something unwanted | another unwanted

so for the regex filter I've entered

'2004 Associated New Media | Power shower: Switch your gas and electricity | Phones: Find a cheaper home line'

but this doesn't seem to have worked but when i just enter
'Phones: Find a cheaper home line'

this does seem to work consistently (although i have to click onto another digest item and back before the change will take effect).

I'm wondering if the '|' is the right seperator for each phrase?

the two which are most important for me are:-

http://www.thisislondon.com/news/londonnews/
http://www.thisislondon.com/news/londonlife/

my freecontent module isn't live onsite yet (until i get this fixed ;)

I'll take a look at v3.1 - what are the improvements?

thanks

Andrew

p.s. looking through the php it does seem as if freecontent will rewrite urls/mailto's etc where does this happen? For example do you copy a page upload it and then the module will relink everything? How does it work?

I used regex=
2004 Associated New Media|Power shower: Switch|Phones: Find a cheaper

(no space arround the |)

It works perfectly.
