A quick question ... how do I build a wiki for my XOOPS site? I've got everything else I need from the various modules out there, but can't seem to find a wiki. Searched around a bit, but no joy



Once I've got the site I need finished, I'm going to go live and start some development for the project. Firstly, a few themes (got about 5 on the boiler from other open source CMS's which would easily shift across) and I have some ideas on how to help a few existing modules plus plan to potentially write a couple myself.

It's phpWiki. Should mention it's the wiki we use internally in the docs.xoops.org site, and it's very good. There are a couple of wiki encarnations around. For instance, the original XOOPS wiki actually is set on a Wakka encarnation, which is not modularized (see it on wiki.xoops.org).

I browsed the module listing, and searched the FAQ and forums .. groan

Just noticed it's valid for 2.0.2 ... can anyone verify 2.0.5.1?

Hey Mark!
Fancy meeting you here . The phpWiki module works with 2.0.5.2, but it seems to be missing some of the integration. It seems to ignore the selected theme and always use the default, and it drops certain blocks from the screen while displaying the Wiki pages in the center.

I'd really like to get this working correctly. I can't imagine trying to do a site in XOOPS without a nice Wiki module.

Oh, and don't bother with "wikimod", it's not nearly as good as phpWiki.

Hehehe .. hey dude ..

Yeah, I'm thinking more and more to use XOOPS for my webapp of choice, although my heart still sits with Tiki. I'm hoping once I get some time to be able to write some interactivity between the two.

B-wiki might be an alternative to phpwiki and wakka modules. B-wiki is based on "Pukiwiki 1.4x" which is the top notch wiki in Japan. I think it is worth checking as long as you don't dislike file-based-wiki.

(bwiki-20031130.tar.bz2 is my recommendation.)

Ufortunately, it doesn't have the complete English manuals, though I & other voluteers have translated some of them.

This depends. Some hosting services are really restrictive, and turn on safe mode and junk. For example, with GoDaddy, my host, I can't get phpWiki to work, despite trying for several days, while wikimod took five minutes to set up.

I realize that wikimod is lacking in several aspects, notably the system for comparing older versions of a wikipage with newer is absent. For me, this was not an issue, though, as I trust everybody that logs on to my wiki.

Also, wikimod is extremely clutter-free. Considering that the rest of my XOOPS site is a mess, with tiny buttons and info-tags everywhere (just look at the hundreds of links on this page you're reading now), I sometimes wish the rest of my site looked more like wikimod.

So, three points:
1. Works with restrictive hosts.
2. Cannot compare with older versions, so don't use wikimod if you need that.
3. Clean layout.
