I've DL several of the installer apps for putting an Apache server on my local PC for testing.

I've had issues with each.

APPSERV

is one I'm getting ready to try.

I'm running W2K server, IIS not installed and WinXP Pro dual boot.

I could use some suggetions on intalling Xoops, and which would be the better system to install local PC server. I prefer W2K server because it seems to be a lot more stable and generally fewer issues.

Regardless, I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

I tried it...

I had issues with it.

WHen it was extracting files it asked for the directory for the files. I entered F:/ drive and it created the UniformServer...

WHen I ran the start it created a W:/ drive. I installed the content of the HTML from the XOOPS unzipped file structure, but I kept getting an error message when I tried to access the site.

To be honest it seems confusing having it on F: and W: drives. Maybe there is something I missed.

THanks for your response

Fatal error: Unable to connect to database in f:\appserv\www\xoops\class\database\databasefactory.php on line 34

When I go through the XOOPS install I get a notice about not being able to access the database. THen when I reload the site I get the above message.

Any suggestions...

Did you try easyPHP?
It works very well for me.

You're doing something wrong (besides cross posting the same question).

I grabbed a Win2K machine just to check out miniserver. In a few minutes I had a working server and Xoops.

First thing is to run the included phpmyadmin that is on the miniserver sample. Create a database that you'll use for Xoops. The builtin user "root" will have access from the local machine and has no password.

The W: drive is the virtual server. Easiest thing is to notice the web root it creates (/html I think?). Whatever it was called (html or www), you should now rename the index.php/index.html file and put the XOOPS install there and same base name that the miniserver originally named it. That saves configuring Apache.

Now you can install XOOPS using the db you created.

Just remember that PHP only works when run against the server (http://localhost etc.). You can't run the site with file://file.php etc.).

Hi. i use miniserve too, and it is really easy.
Follow this...
1) you must create a database.
2) link your database to xoops.

good luck

I've got the miniserver setup

I moved all files and folders from the XOOPS Install packet that were in the HTML folder (not folder) into the W:\WWW\xoops (I created a folder xoops)

When I go through the install I get all green rectangles as I go until I reach the

=============================
CHECK DATABASE POPUP

check database
Could not connect to the database server.

Please check the database server and its configuration.

<< restart from the beginning
==============================

Here is what I filled in for the MySql

In MyPHPAdmin I've created a database named Xoops1

My answer to each question follows the >

General configuration

Database - Choose the database to be used > MySQL
Database Hostname - Hostname of the database server. If you are unsure, 'localhost' works in most cases. >localhost
Database Username - Your database user account on the host > userdb
Database Password - Password for your database user account > passdb
Database Name - The name of database on the host > xoops1

The installer will attempt to create the database if not exist
Table Prefix - This prefix will be added to all new tables created to avoid name conflict in the database. If you are unsure, just use the default 'xoops'. > XOOPS
Use persistent connection? - Default is 'NO'. Choose 'NO' if you are unsure. Yes No >NP
XOOPS Physical Path - Physical path to your main XOOPS directory WITHOUT trailing slash
XOOPS Virtual Path (URL) > w:/www/xoops
Virtual path to your main XOOPS directory WITHOUT trailing slash >http://localhost/xoops

confirm >>
==================================

Again when I get to the CHECK DATABASE POPUP I Get
====================================
check database
Could not connect to the database server.

Please check the database server and its configuration.
====================================

If I cancel and try to reload the webpage I get

whether I tryhttp://localhost/a/ orhttp://localhost orhttp://localhost/xoops

Fatal error: Unable to connect to database in f:\appserv\www\xoops\class\database\databasefactory.php on line 34

=====================================

Soory for the long posting, but I've exhausted just about every thing I can imagine.
