Just to let you know that hopefully this week or next week we'll have a "Basic Module Pack" RC coming to you for testing and feedback.

Minimum requirements:
- PHP 5.2
- XOOPS 2.5.0
- ModuleAdmin class 1.1 (included with XOOPS 2.5.4)
- MySQL 5.0.7

While there are still some modules missing, you can start to test those which are already available:

- TDMDownloads
- avaman
- boox
- contact
- marquee
- mastop_go2
- mylinks
- tag
- xdonations
- xforms
- xlanguage
- xoopsfaq
- xoopsheadline
- xoopspoll
- xsitemap

You can download them from the XOOPS SourceForge SVN

I hope that we'll be also able to include these modules as well (some need to be tested, some are being still worked on):

- extCal
- extGallery
- fmContent
- newBB
- News
- XoopsPartners

If we have time to convert them, I am looking at following modules to potentially include them as well:

- Birthday
- module Installer
- myGuestbook
- myMenus
- xDirectory
- XoopsTube

I would like to invite everybody to help us with testing and with conversion.

We also need for many of them Documentation!

Our Translation teams will help us with translations, so hopefully the "Basic Module Pack" will be widely use around the world!

If you believe that a module should be part of the Basic Module Pack, or other future packs, please let us know. Of course, the best would be if you could convert it and submit it to SVN

Re: XOOPS Basic Module Pack RC coming soon for testing & feedback

I am beginning to wonder if "Basic module pack" is the right name for this...

Basic would infer that we have a small number of modules doing a minimal but wide interest base and it looks more like this is a list of a majority of modules that have been updated to the 2.5 admin interface as well as having been verified to work with 2.5. I have to question if the time hasn't come to separate this into separate packs dependent on their intended destinations.

Or call this the Xoops 2.5 module pack or something but calling it a "basic" module pack is kind of unrealistic when you have 15 modules in it now, adding 6 more, and looking to add 6 more beyond that.

In my mind a basic module pack should be what is included with xoops as default.

I do want to mention though that I don't mean to detract from the idea here. I think the idea is solid but I think some thought should be given to splitting this up into more applicably named packages.

There are other Packs planned as well.

So there are different ways to deal with it - we can select only few of the module and make it a "real" Basic Pack".

Or we can call it the "2012 Module Pack"

We can decide on this later.

The most important thing is that we focus on having the best and most popular modules converted to XOOPS 2.5.x GUI, and that they are tested and working correctly on XOOPS 2.5.4 and PHP 5.2+

Exactly, XOOPS 2.0.18 was CMS..., there was everything required to have fully functional portal on your own.

Now is a Profile Manager,PMS and core.

- TDMDownloads
- avaman
- boox
- contact
- marquee
- mastop_go2
- mylinks
- tag
- xdonations
- xforms
- xlanguage
- xoopsfaq
- xoopsheadline
- xoopspoll
- xsitemap

Short description is missing to this, for some avaman may says something, but I was away few years, so this means nothing to me. Mastop_go2 too, what left for new commers.

If I remeber right, XOOPS 2.0.18 was:
Core, FAQ, News, Links, Downloads, Forum, Polls, Contact, Headlines, Users, Sections (variety of contents)

Don't know where from comes XForms, but as what I'm reading from the language files, it looks like an very earlier version (PR) of Formularize 3 RC1 - 10% of that module.

Current XOOPS 2.5.5 should look like this (and will look in my distribution:
Core 2.5.5, including PMS and Profile
RMCommon (Bitcero)
My Words (Bitcero) - just waiting for the english files
Contact Me (Bitcero) - ----|| -----
Galleries (Bitcero) - no EN_GB
News 1.66 (Herve, trabis)
Tag (this should be, core feature, same as comments, plus global categories)
D3Downloads or RMDownloads if Bitcero fix it, RMD is best of the best options in his class, just a bit broken.
HappyLinux Framework (http://linux2.ohwada.net/)
Web Links (http://linux2.ohwada.net/) - http://xoops.cmsbg.info/modules/weblinks/
Altsys
XOOPS Polls or Umfarge (still can't decide)
D3Forum
Happy Search (improved search engine for xoops, by happy linux)
sitemap (by happy linux)

Optionally there will be:

MyTube 1.5 (by macdonald) - http://xoops.cmsbg.info/modules/mytube/viewcat.php?op=&cid=1
wflinks 1.07 (by catzwolf, macdonald) - http://xoops.cmsbg.info/modules/wflinks/viewcat.php?cid=1
wfdownloads 3.2 rc2 (marcan, catzwolf)
newbb (mamba, catzwolf)
fmcontent (voltan)
xTBSource (wishcraft)
RSSC Headline (no problems with UTF-8)
RSS Center (both by Happy Linux)
Web Photo (gallery by happy linux)
Google Map (by HL)
Liaise 1.26 patched by HL

This pack is enough to start playing with XOOPS, even to make your own community system, everything required is included, rest "options" should be available from Xoops.org/downloads . From well sorted, not outdated /downloads.

Later if there is 2.5.6 version, will try to get some info from current developers base regarding SEF URL's for maintained modules (there should be sample .htaccess per module anyway).

Also in 2.5.5 at least one theme should be with Text Generator for site name/slogan. And for 2.5.6 will try to get such theme.
May The Source Be With You!

We need to focus on one task at a time, which at the time is the getting the main modules to have the same GUI based on the XOOPS 2.5.x GUI, so we have consistency.

BTW - xForms is replacement for Liaise.

Basic module pack should contain:

- News module
- Content module
- Link module
- Download module
- Contact module
- Gallery module

With these modules somebody can create-start a descend website.

Every other module pack with more modules should considered as extending the website and its possibilities due to personal needs.

Strange the module TDMDownloads 1.61 is nowhere mentioned. https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6041

It was actually mentioned as the first on the list! See my first post:

I really like that 2012 module pack name. Tells me what I wanted to know. Is it current. Also is it in english. I installed a 'contact us' that was not and attempted to install (had to manually delete from server) a Japanese WordPress. Again, I REALLY like the idea of calling a xoops module pack with that many modules by the year it was verified current.
