Hi,

I used XOOPS some time ago and loved it!
but then after an upgrade-gone-wrong with Fantastico never got back to it.

When I could get back to XOOPS the module repository was closed. It is now open- Yay!

Why i like xoops-
pretty simple to set up
i like the My Reviews module
MyAlbum-P was a good gallery

But now there seems to be a lot of worrying messages in News and the forums.

So, what is the future of XOOPS?
Will it be an ongoing CMS?
Are developers of modules moving to other platforms (postnuke, joomla, drupal, etc.)?

I know it is open source and accept the risks with that (well, some of them, hence my post) and appreciate the efforts of all involved but should I be moving away from this CMS to another, with a less fractious development team?

I guess, the posts and news sections have me spooked.

cheers,
DJDrD

It has a lot of people spooked. However, there are some news posted today which gives us hope that the various factions have begun to talk with each other, and that hopefully that some agreement on the future management of XOOPS will be reached soon.

So, I guess that means wait a bit and see what happens.

Yeah, never, ever, ever use fantastico lol.

I was brought into XOOPS by Mr. Theme a couple years ago, to be honest I didn't really like it at first, but it grew on me and now my own business site is running XOOPS.

What you're basically saying is: I don't want to put time into a XOOPS site just for it to become a dead CMS in the near future. I really wouldn't worry about that

Thanks, Madfish. I hope it will be resolved soon as I really want to get my photo gallery and reviews section up and running.

I find other CMS's a bit of a hassle, really.

exactly what I am saying
the fact that a lot of people still run businesses using XOOPS lends confidence to my decision to proceed.

No worry, XOOPS will survive, in a year or so you can buy it in your local software store.

Sorry, you might find a better solution to your CMS needs somewhere else, these people are all eager to power, and probably XOOPS will not that of a future... seek for a CMS that will have a future... or stick with unchangable XOOPS forever... Chances are, the issues would not be resolved... as they haven't for about 2-3 years...

P.S.--> Joomla has great options... might wanna consider it when choosing a new CMS

I agree with that.

There's a very strong affinity for XOOPS within the xoops.org community and no-one here actually wants it to fail (except one or two trouble-making trolls ).

Even if "the project" were to come to grief, it lives on in other guises (I'm not going to name 'em as that might seem like I'm endorsing/recommending them and/or planning to move myself - I'm not!). Indeed, there's a thread in the forums today......

Use XOOPS if it suits your needs better than any other CMS

I'm optimistic the future of XOOPS will be assured based on it's merits as a CMS. It's a good job it's future doesn't depend on sales, because at present, I doubt there would be any.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
