What you're basically saying is: I don't want to put time into a XOOPS site just for it to become a dead CMS in the near future. I really wouldn't worry about that

exactly what I am saying
the fact that a lot of people still run businesses using XOOPS lends confidence to my decision to proceed.

It has a lot of people spooked. However, there are some news posted today which gives us hope that the various factions have begun to talk with each other, and that hopefully that some agreement on the future management of XOOPS will be reached soon.

So, I guess that means wait a bit and see what happens.

Thanks, Madfish. I hope it will be resolved soon as I really want to get my photo gallery and reviews section up and running.

I find other CMS's a bit of a hassle, really.

Hi,

I used XOOPS some time ago and loved it!
but then after an upgrade-gone-wrong with Fantastico never got back to it.

When I could get back to XOOPS the module repository was closed. It is now open- Yay!

Why i like xoops-
pretty simple to set up
i like the My Reviews module
MyAlbum-P was a good gallery

But now there seems to be a lot of worrying messages in News and the forums.

So, what is the future of XOOPS?
Will it be an ongoing CMS?
Are developers of modules moving to other platforms (postnuke, joomla, drupal, etc.)?

I know it is open source and accept the risks with that (well, some of them, hence my post) and appreciate the efforts of all involved but should I be moving away from this CMS to another, with a less fractious development team?

I guess, the posts and news sections have me spooked.

cheers,

For anyone else, if anyone else needs it, it seems that only the admin user can add albums to the categories set up in the Module Administration pages. Users can only create albums in the "User galleries" category set up by default.

Registered Usres, or Anon users if they are allowed in the Module preferences, can add photos to the albums created by the admin, or anyone else, if they are given permission in the Album properties page (from "Modify albums").

Cannot delete reviews in My Reviews

Hello,

I have installed My Reviews 2.19.
The module looks pretty good.
However, I cannot see any way to delete reviews.

If I log into the XOOPS administrator and go to "Manage Reviews" I see that I need to enter the "File ID".
To find this I need to log into my site and click on "Modify Review" for a particular review. However, the File ID parameter is always blank, therefore I cannot modify (and presumably delete) a review from within the XOOPS admin.

any assistance is welcome.

xcGallery categories and how to use them

Hello,

I have recently installed both myAlbum-P and xcGallery 2, testing both to see which I prefer. I like the slideshow functionality in xcGallery.

I would like to have have two categories:
Holidays
and
Bushwalking

Each category would have albums/subcategories for different holidays or bushwalking trips.

For example:
Holidays > Easter Island (Easter Island being the album/subcategory)
or
Bushwalking > Kakadu (Kakadu being the album/subcategory)

Each album/subcategory would then hold the photos for that holiday or bushwalk.

In myAlbum-P this seems to be relatively simple to set up, where I created such a structure and started placing photos in the subcategories.

Whereas, in xcGallery, I create a Category, such as 'Holidays', but whenever I add an album it is always added under "User Galleries".
Oddly, the User Galleries category is only displayed on-screen in the top page of xcGallery when I add albums. When there are no albums only the two categories, Holidays and Bushwalking, are listed.

How do I set up a gallery structure as proposed above with xcGaller? How do I add albums under the categories I created? I did not wish to use the category 'User galleries" at all.

any assistance is welcome.

Kind regards,
DJDrD

Thank you, ghettonet, for your reply.

After reading your email I delved more deeply into the directory/file permissions and umask and did in fact see that subdirectories are set to 755 and files to 644.

I will also re-read the security tips and Tricks document and finish installing the security module.

thanks,
