Hello. Im not a lawyer, but here are my thoughts and believes... If they mean anything to you, seek professional clarification.

One big difference between GPL and many other os copyrights/lefts is that ALL software used/distributed with GPL software must be GPL as well. I.E., even if you modify XOOPS heavily and distribute it with non-xoops modules, the modified XOOPS and its modules must be released under GPL as a whole. here is a exert from the GPL

the most important part is the last para of 2.c

Long story short, if the work you create is identifiably different from the GPL program, you can distribute it independently from the GPL program and its code how-ever you want. But if your work is not identifiably different, or if it is being distributed along with part or whole GPL'ed work, then it must be released under GPL.

If Im not mistaken, PHP, BSD, LGPL and other licenses are different and do allow you to sell works derived from/included with them in many practical situations.

this site says "powered by ismarty", but ALL the code is 100% xoops: http://www.portofeliz.sp.gov.br/

100% XOOPS and 100% illegal.

I will contact all 'Sin' Digital clients to know more about the true.

Powered by doesn't mean nothing. You can put there what you want. It isn't obligated to put powered by XOOPS within the footer (theme)!

Sim Digital or Guvilla's work, legal or illegal, do not have any relationship with XOOPS BR Support Site.

Guvilla is a XOOPS developer and your modules (eNoticias and e-Empregos) is distributing in brazilian XOOPS community. This is our relationship. I believe what is the same thing with XOOPS Brasil.

The user mauricio seems a old xoops.org's friend...

Guys unless anyone comes up with any proof that prior credit notices have been removed from the original source files violating the gpl this discussion is over.

Understand: There is nothing that must be found in the generated source from output files created with Xoops.
Even if you use XOOPS to create metatags saying the page was created using MegaPower CMS that would not be a violation.

So mauricio or anyone else joining this position: Are you in posession of the source files (and not the source of the output from your browser) to prove this claim then please contact us.

Otherwise this discussion (which started with a hijacked account anyway) is over.


Any proof to reopen this should be sent to the foundation (e.g. Herko) or to any moderator of your choice.
