I have a folder on my desktop labeled XOOPS. Inside of this folder there are 3 folders; 2.0, 2.2, and Themes. Inside of each of the version folders I have a pre-packaged "up once" module pack. So heres the game......

I am sure everone has heard of a "Desert Island Disk"
Basically the premise is this: If you are stranded on a desert island what 10 songs would you want to take with you?

This is "Desert Island Modules". No core modules please only list addons.

My Top Ten

1. AMS
2. Content
3. CBB
4. Protector
5. XM-Memberstats
6. Tropical Mail
7. WF-Downloads
8. XBS Metatags
9. Multi-Menu
10. Job Listings

What would be nice is to set the basic requiremetns of about 90% of portalcms sites and then you can give you favorites modules for each section.

Example:

Musts>>
Article management -
Content management -
Discussion Board -

Specific Uses>>
Directory (yellow pages) -
Mail management -

etc etc...

Too late for me to make it all, but if everyone wants to chip in, this might make a nice list.

I would also like to see beside the module name the year it was released and if it is still being developped actively.

example: wf-downloads (v3rc3, 2005, active)

We can then discuss the merit of each of our favorite modules for each task and come up with an "un"-official list of the best modules to use. For close calls we can put both but with the main argument differing them.

Cheers.

You have some of my favourites to, but I would add:

1. Extcal2, the world's most simple and attractive calendar module.

2. TinyD 2.2, the world's most simple and flexible and cloneable content module. Brilliant for making custom page layouts, particularly if you start cloneing blocks of other modules as well (I like to create topic-specific versions of the recent news headlines and recent forum posts to go on different 'department' or 'subject' pages).

Here's my two cents:

1. XOOPS Info Module...due to having multiple sites on different servers and using my local server, it's hard to keep track of what site is where. With a few clicks I know where I am, I don't have to rely on my (faulty) memory or lost Post-It's.

2. WF-Channels...I LOVE the Link to Us and Refer A Friend built right in

3. XOOPS Info - site info
4. XBS MetaTags - keyword and page description generation
5. MyAlbum - photo management (this might be core by now)

XM-Memberstats was a VERY BAD Idea!!!

I've installed it, and now I cannot login anymore. It tells me that my password is wrong.

I am using XOOPS 2.0.16 and XM-Memberstats 2.0e on PHP4.

OK, what happened was that running the installation of XM-Memberstats caused increased number of queries hitting the server, and since I have limitation of 50,000 queries/hour, this shut down my database and the help desk had to reset it.

The question is - how can I minimize the number of queries on XOOPS? Is there a paper anywhere on this?
