""Try to install it in a subdirectory (as it was done in the above tutorial)"

Um, can't do that on my dev machine, it's set up to only allow subdomains. No problem, I'll get the debugger on it soon and figure it out and let you guys know.

Re: Xoops Engine installation and testing

Tried install last night on FC13, PHP5.3. Get as far as checking dierctores etc, all OK except that it doesn't like my url (http://xoops.localhost). and won't let me progress Bizarre, as that is the page I have browsed to (xoops.localhost/install) to start the install. I'll try and find time to stick it under the debugger unless someone else is already aware of this problem.

Can anyone point at the documentation that is providing the rationale for creating the XoopsEngine please. Groundwork first

Cheers

AFAIK, no one is looking after the module repository on an active basis here at xoops.org.

Two other sites have been set up as community sites

xoopsaddons.org which was supposed to be a new module repository but is currently offline. xoopsmoddev.org whic is up and running and is trying to be the new home for module developers.

You might try asking this question at xoopsinfo.com

Xoops 2.0.17 and 2.2.5 are currently under review prior to release. As for the 'new system', you'd have to ask phppp about that.

A quick google shows the only site with that module is the one you have already pointed to. My guess is that the site owner has written it themself or modified an existing module. I suggest you try and contact them directly.

Try smartprofile if using XOOPS 2.0.16. Note Well, it requires PHP 5.

Possibly the easiest way of finding out is to contact the site owners and ask them. Just a thought.

You could perhaps use smartprofile for this.

I believe the answer is yes. I did it some while ago but have lost the instructions. As always with modules, seeking help from the module producer is usually the best bet (in this case xoopsforge.com) followed by doing a good search here at xoops.org.

As to how do you get it back in the event of failure - do a backup BEFORE trying to install/upgrade to CBB. FTP your newbb files onto a local drive and then use your SQL administration tools to export your database.

anyone else with a suggestion OTHER then updating? to 2.0.16

Use SQL admin (e.g. phpMyAdmin or something similar) and do an update on the group data. You'll have to figure out which group id belongs to which group.

Oh, and if you are using 2.0.9.2 then you are seriously way behind and open to all sorts of security problems. Good luck

I like Vaughans suggestions for using Xoopsinfo code of conduct.
