Hi
I am having problems with the update which I am trying to install to provide a means of adding file attachments to forum messages.
I am absolutely new to maintaining a forum; I found XOOPS last week after trying several others and this appeared to be good. I read around the FAQ’s and experimented with admin settings and was able to change some colours theme and input my own image graphics after some trial and error. I realised after a couple of days that I couldn’t upload files with messages in the forums that I had created and so went back to FAQ’s for an answer and found the update.
Unfortunately I do not understand the instructions that come with the update and this has caused me to delete the whole site and start from scratch three times because I messed up and kept getting error messages.
I know that it is frustrating for many of you to continually answer basic questions but I am at a stage where I do not want to mess up again and so would value some advice but in very, very plain language if possible.
I have now reloaded XOOPS (v 2.0.9.2) and it works. I have downloaded Newbb 2.0 final and unzipped it. The next instruction is:

‘Update Scripts Along with the Package:
-- Newbb 1 to Newbb 2.0 ( newbb1_to_newbb2.php )
-- Newbb 2.0 RC1 to Newbb 2.0 ( newbb2rc1_to_newbb2.php )
-- Newbb 2.0 RC2 to Newbb 2.0 ( newbb2rc2_to_newbb2.php )
-- Newbb 2.0 RC3 to Newbb 2.0 ( newbb2rc3_to_newbb2.php )
-- Newbb Pro 1.03 to Newbb 2.0( newbbpro_to_newbb2.php )’

I have no idea how to update them, do I simply upload to the directory where XOOPS is located?

Next instruction:

MUST-DO: replace your /modules/system/admin/modulesadmin/main.php with the
-url=http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1052403&group_id=41586&atid=430842] Bugfix for block update[/url]

Deleted ‘main.php’ and uploaded ‘index.php

Next instruction:

MUST-DOs to Enjoy NewBB 2.0 if you update from NewBB 2.0 RC3:
1. Upload the New Files and Run the Proper Update Scripts
2. Update the NewBB Module in the Moduleadmin
3. Update the newbb templates

OR

MUST-DOs to Enjoy NewBB 2.0 RC3 if you update from NewBB 2.0 RC2:
1. Upload the New Files and Run the Proper Update Scripts
2. Update the NewBB Module in the Moduleadmin
3. Update the newbb templates

I have no idea which of these RC3 or RC2 my version of XOOPS is.

Do I simply upload all the new files with thier folders to the directory on the server where XOOPS is and how do I update scripts?

I am really sorry to impose al of these questions on you but I have tried to help myself and failed miserably, so if there is anybody that can help I would be very grateful.
Thank you in advance
Frank

These are update scripts that help you update a module. Use this only if you have instaled before any version of newbb (forum module for Xoops). If you have now instaled NewBB 1 and you would like to upgrade to Newbb 2.0 you have to replace all the files, run the update script (only one from the list) ant then update module in admin area.

If you don't have any NewBB instaled then you don't have to run any of these scripts.

How to run a script ?

for example, if you are upgrading from newbb 1 to newbb2 just enter this in your browser to visit this page:

Here you have a new main.php file which you have to replace with the older one. Don't delete anything!

RC2 or RC3 are not version of your XOOPS but your newbb module. RC means Release candidate so it means this is not a full version. If you have Newbb 2.0 for the first time now, you don't have to worry about that!

Yes! Upload it to http://www.yoursite.com/modules/newbb.

a slight correction to gambero's post :

if you're using XOOPS 2.0.9.2 there is no need to download and use the main.php file..

the rest of gambero's post should be enough for you to get up and running :)
