what kind of difficulties if it is even possible will I face if I want to upgrade from a forum that is phpBB to the XOOPS forum?

I'm in the process of doing just this at the moment. I've written a Python script to migrate the users and the forum posts from phpBB2 to Xoops/NewBB and it all works pretty well.

The biggest problem I had/am having is that the phpBB2 BBCode is richer than Xoops. The conversion can take care of most things, but I have had to hack XOOPS a little to get support for [list] type constructs in posts.

When I am done, I would be happy to let you have the conversion script, it is very messy, but works for my needs.

pgregory - would you mind publishing your changes to the textsanitizer class as a core hack? You can do so on the SourceForge project site for XOOPS:

is it possible to get this converter ?

i did lokk at bbpixel but didnt find one to convert from phpbb2 to newbb !

do you know which one i have to use ?

I second the motion... I'm in the process of converting over a 1400 user, 45,000 post phpNuke/phpBB site to XOOPS and had given up on actual conversion.... If you have such a python script, I would dearly love a shot at it!

there is 2 different phpbb modules available for XOOPS if u haven't realised.. 1 is available at bbpixel.com and the other is being developed at the XOOPS dev site..

I really dont want to maintain phpBB. I'm very happy with newBB2, so the overall goal is to convert the content...

I can let you have the Python script I wrote to convert our phpBB2 database to newBB. It is a horrible hack, and not entirely automatic, you will need to tweak the code for your needs, but it might be a suitable starting point.
