When the site was finished and set into production I managed to forget my password to my xooops installation. Also, it was lost in the browser history.
So I got the news password, completely without meaning. How on earth can I change my password manually back into something I remember? After all, I am the webmaster...
Maybe this was a stupid question, but I have to ask it...Please?

The best module for news publishing

I am really confused. What is the ebst module fro news publishing? By News I mean news with images and everything else emedded, and of course a system which talks to both forum and poll-modules.

I have installed and tested Article, News and, after some serious hunting, AI.

AI could be really useful if it had less bugs, specially according to categories. AI have understood presentation.
News are great, but it lacks the idea of presentation. Article have some more presentation options, but lacks some basic things like a "print" and "send to a friend" and "pdf" option behind each article. Article also seems to have more features than News.

So I am a bit stuck. I want a news module aimed for good presentation and hopefully as good as any other news publishing software, in order to make a online magazine/ezine. I guess this is the only options?

Important access question

I am in need of rebuilding a website where they have five general groups of members. These specific groups are in need of a login for the entire groups and NOT for individual members.

Is this possible with Xoops? I am thinking about pre-create username and login for five different groups which should have access to information specific only for them. It shall NOT be ANY individual login nor ANY need for creating and registering individul useres. But the entire GROUPS should be able to log in with their specific username/password and of course it must be possible with many connections by the same group simultanously.

Administrator should be able to change the username/password for the five groups when he/she wish.

I know it won't be any problem with the modules permissions since they all can be group controlled.

Ok, I see! That brought enlightment to it all. Anyway, I thought the Magazine-consept acutally could have a value, since no other modules in the XOOPS community are similar. I really miss a news module with really good presentation and meant for broadcasting like a news site, a web-magazine, an e-zine or similar. I'll have to google after the AI in order to check it out.

And I really hope for the future that maybe, maybe the excelelnt News-module could rise and shine as a full blown e-zine/news presentation module.

Recently, after some serious Googling, I found the module XOOPS Magazine 1.2.
I just wonder if it is anyone else who actually have tried and perhaps are using this module? Which experiences have you had? Bugs? Compability?

I have not implemented it on any production site yet, only on a local xammp. It seems as a promising module in order to make som serious presentation of news. News 1.53 is fine, but the presentation are really stone age and not by any means good for making a website type magazine, webzine, real news presentation etc.

I can’t find anything valuable regarding this either at XOOPS news or in the forums. Anyone willing to share experiences, information regarding this module?

I intend to make som custom pages/sections (whatever) with pages or something similar. These are supposed to be a kind of entry folders into specific subjects, and these "index" pages should be easy accessible. It would be great if it was possible to have a logic and human friendly url, a kind of www.site.com/logic instead of not understandable urls with a long tail of paramteres.

Is that a possibility with Xoops? If so, how do I do it?

Finally it all has been sorted out, after som serious digging. Some f**khead were using a fake email address and pretending using us a sender. This was not the case, hwever, but we set up a catch all at the server, and then recieved all returning error messages from those the spammer had mailed.
So our XOOPS are safe and now even safer.
And spammers? Well, I hope they all vanish into a deep hole. In all cases they have contributed in the blacklisting on our domain in a lot of places.

I am still in a mess, spam mail in return are flooding my inbox!

My only option now was to close down the site!

Weblinks were removed from public display, then the spammhackfuc**rs must have used some other vulnerability on the system, I don't have any clue what it might be.

Anyone with any advice what to do then? Should i relave XOOPS as a platform and go for something else??

One or several fu*kheads have recently abused our system to send spam mails. I recieved some tons of mail error messages from a non-existent mail address on our system.

I am using Captcha on our Liaise module, and this module are set to send mail to one of our adresses only.

The only module I suspect been unsecure regarding terror attacks like this might be the "Tip A Friend" option in the Weblinks module. I have disabled the whole module now (with hundreds of links not beeing accessible any more) and I have not got any more mail messages.

Anyone with similar experiences? Does this sound like a reasonable explanation? What can I do with this module in order to not have this vulnability - how to make it impossible to send more than one mail from "Tip a Friend" in the weblinks? Or might it be other explanations??

Yes, I have installed protector.
Yes, I would love to break the neck on the **ckheads!

Using: XOOPS 2.0.16
Weblinks 1.0
Frameworks installed
