at last I figured out what the problem was by comparing files and db tables of a fresh 2.4.5 installation and my upgraded 2.2.4 to 2.4.5 site
there seems to be a bug in the upgrade procedure, the filed in the configuration table which contains information about smtp in the updated 2.2.4 to 2.4.5 db was declared as a text field while in the fresh 2.4.5 db it is an array
by changing manually the field type to "array" in the upgraded db and modifying consequently it's content, the mailer started working

same problem while upgrading from a working 2.2 site to a 2.4.5, mailer does'nt work, smtp parameters are correct, any advice?

php 5.1
mysql 5.0
apache 2.0

I've installed wf-section but even if I set wysiwyg editor in preferences the default XOOPS editor appears (wf-resource 1.04 is installed)
according to xoosla site, if I understand it in the right way, wf-section shouldn't be improved and upgraded in the future
which one is then the module "of the future" for categorized content management in XOOPS as smartsection for example is already not compatible with XOOPS 2.3 in the last version 2.14?

For adding categorized pages to a XOOPS site, is the wf-section module still a good solution on XOOPS 2.3.x for a fresh installation?

thank you for the answer, unfortunally I found the links you tell about but no pending message is shown where expected
at this point I'm afraid there might be some issue with the system environment:

Version XOOPS - XOOPS 2.3.3
Version PHP - 5.2.9
Version MySQL - 5.0.68-log
Version Server API - cgi
Version OS - Linux

safe_mode - Off
register_globals - On

any idea?
if one deactives moderation in the preferences, how is supposed approval to be given to posts by users who can't post without approval? In my forum nothing seems to change

are there known issues for cbb 3.08 on XOOPS 2.3.3 (php 5.2.9 MySQL 5.0.68)?
I can't have moderator see any message waiting for approval even if sending message as user without approving rights I was previously given message of successfull sending and in wait of approval. Permissions were given and checked many times, moderation is active in preferences.
Also notices by users, once analyzed by the moderator, disappear and are not showed again even if the button for visualizing them is pushed.

cbb 3.08 moderation how to

Sorry if the question may seem stupid but I installed cbb 3.08 on XOOPS 2.3.3 and activated moderation in preferences, then I set permissions for different groups.
Logging in as registered user and sending an answer to a post I'm told to wait for a moderator to approve the message.
When I log in as the moderator (which also webmaster and with all the possible permissions granted) I can't find any waiting message anywhere. Where should I search for the list of messages waiting for approvation?

Xmmemberstats doesn't solve the problem, the fact is that in all the tables relating to users, sessions and login no data are inserted for users other than webmaster.
Could anyone help me in checking the php files by which XOOPS is presumed to update user, session, online, etc. tables when a user makes login? Just knowing which files I should check could be of help.

problems with who's online

I made the who's online block visible to webmaster group but it always says that only one user (webmaster) is online. Now I'm using XOOPS 2.2.4 on a server with php 5.1.2 and MySQL 5.0.20 but it was the same on the sourceforge uniserver with php 5.0.4 and MySQL 4.1.12. Has this something to do with the activation of personalized sessions? The other think I noticed is that if one user is logged one can log with the same user on another client. Is this normal?
Any help would be really appreciated.
