Hi,

That looks familiar ... I think it looks a lot like the times I was trying to play with php ini file and change the include_path ... when I had the include_path wrong, the database was not connected to either in the config file or another critical file after that ...

I'd be willing to bet if you went to yoursite.com/admin/ you might see an admin login ... and if you do and if you did ... if you turned on show errors/de-bugging in preferences, you'd see a database error msg from php .

That's one guess. It really looks familiar like the database is not connected or only on one call .

The other guess is the script file installed for gorgle ads has a syntax errorand it wipes the entire remainder of the content, and that's why you have header and footer but blank content.

syntax error in the theme file that wipes entire content of page ...

let us know if you find out what is was?

@wcrwcr

Thank you for easing my confusion I looked for a module with the name moodle in it, too lazy to search I guess, so thanks for helping out.

I'm sure it was by complete coincidence that I just finished looking at our demo moodle site and thinking about ways to combine it with XOOPS, and then logged in here to see that post ...

@wimelord - Suggest you try to take and use the missing file ( adodb.inc.php ) from an older module version distribution, or even the moodle distribution, if it is actually missing from the htdocs/comunl/cms/modules/M4X/moodle/lib/adodb/ path ( I assume you looked to see if it was there )

If it is there then it is obvious path problem on line whatever it was in the file that generated the error. You could try to replace the path variable with hard-coded path at that particular spot, or hard-code the variable at the top of the file.

Or ... Try as wcrwcr suggests and install moodle standalone and make links in XOOPS menu to it ( installed in sub-dir )
You can always combine the style sheets if you need a more integrated look. I have developed a technique for doing this that is easier than it sounds at first . Be happy to tell you about that if you want.

Sorry I'm so blabby, must be getting tired !
Good Luk !

I dunno about anyone else but I'm confussed about moodle module for XOOPS ... is this a xoopsmodule or just xoopsmoodle which is moodle on the same site with XOOPS?

I have set up moodle recently but never heard of a moodle module so I am moderately moody about meddling with moodle modules ...

Thank you for your comments! I'm not just saying that, cause you gave some great ideas. True it may take awhile to implement them all, looks like I will need to add some more links and explain more, as you have said.

I suppose I don't have time right now to design a theme so I'll try one of the more interesting ones from the selection.

Yes ... your suggestions will make excellent content ... Thank you again and thanks for taking so much time !

You're welcome for the promotion of XOOPS. Sorry if i wasn't clear on my meaning ...

I suppose to answer your question I should ask, what was your impression of the splash page, does it seem to make people want to see what is coming next, will it generate interest in the Open Source application that it leads to ...

Since I plan to spend a certain number of hours per week working with each application, I would also ask about any suggested improvements to the XOOPS application that would serve both to enhance perceptions of Open Source applications and XOOPS in particular. Say for someone who was very unsure of all this new stuff and was trying to decide between XOOPS or another Open Source application, and paying a bundle for a local ISP "custom" website ...

Thanks,

Hello all,

I hope I chose the right forum to post this :)

My site, www.cyberocity.com, is in the business of supporting Open Source development (in a small way). I have set up several Open Source appliations, and decided on a venue of presenting "Today's Favorite" on a splash page, then transferring users to the days favorite after 30 seconds or so.

We also offer hosting and other PHP/MySQL services to try and support our efforts, so this is a business, but we really would like to help spread Open Source awareness. In our local community it's something fairly new, and we hope to influence people to try Open Source applications as an alternative to the usual custom business site or large corporate solution.

Anyway, I would like to have your comments, opinions, suggestions if you would like to offer anything. I am still learning the best way to do things. But like I said we support Open Source development in general, so please no XOOPS is the BEST flames or criticisms of other Open Source applications ( yeah right! ))

XOOPS should come rolling around on a regular cycle of "Today's Favorite" every week or so. Thanks a lot.

So, even when stored in php sessions in a file in a /tmp dir it uses cookies? That's ok ... I like cookies. I just have a problem with people turning them off then wondering why they can't stay logged in to their account (when XOOPS is using SENT cookies) and sending desperate pleas for help and screaming silly accusations that the site is all messed up at three o'clock in the morning ...

On the other hand saving the data in the database does work transparently to those who don't allow cookies, but the database tends to get clogged (or so I've heard) if there isn't some kind of routine to clean up old sessions.

Thanks for taking time to reply !

We want files! We want files! We want files!

I love having sessions saved to a directory as the php sessions do it. There is even clean up handled automatically.

Especially when so many people are scared of cookies and turn them off. But the darn database sessions thing can clog up on ya . So ...
