Well, since I registered, there is no completed Development guide to explain the core, the modules. You need to read the modules to have a clue. First priority should always be, to have a good dev guide.

Yes, that is my intention anyway. It is useless to create another fork. With a section, I mean a section on the site, to discuss progress, findings.

Additionally, it should be usefull to provide 'flags' to every module to mention comptability with a sql base. A flag for Mysql, a flag for PostgreSQL...

In our projects, currently we focus on the stored procedures, to increase security issues. The new version of MySQL does have stored procedures, but it is less mature and proven as PgSQL right now. That's why we need this so badly.

Ackar,

Can You create a section on XOOPS for PostgreSQL setup, development and Beta testing ? Some people did already created patches and a sql file and part of it are on the site, but it should be better to have a centralized section.

"Ha, een landgenoot die me uit de knoei helpt"

Yes, we will try this out and study the code. the big question is ...stability. Some people have succeeded to run XOOPS on PostgreSQL but I see the lack of posted information.

I would not minimize the work of the profile hack.

However, if You add the possibility to extend those fields, You want, soon or later, You need a way to deal with multiple screeens.

Currently we wrote for another CMS a profile hack with tabbed screens as sections of web related, IM related, location, etc
But after all, You see a need to create several custom screens to provide information and to use the CMS for other tasks as well. In our case this is a dating board.

We like to help to create a nice custom profile addon for xoops, but as said before, we wait to help until we have postgreSQL support.

In our project we will store images in BLOBS in the database, and not in folders, for security reasons etc. That's why we prefer postgreSQL and secondly, when You make huge use of storing advanced profiles, You want to have an option to activate rollback and a better way of locking rows etc.
Ok, I say an option to activate in prefs, because our vision
is to have a transparant layer of the SQL engine and until now this is not ready, we suppose.

Thanks for the hack for study.

Yes, We have planned to write some modules for XOOPS as a dating module and to extend the possibilities of the profiles etc, because You need the latter for the first.

Indeed we develop mainly on PostgeSQL bases because MySQL has major drawbacks, especially to fault resolving (roll back) and
stored procedures. In fact, we have discussed this issue heavely with the MySQL Dev team, and future releases of MySQL will support stored procedures... Every major SQL database uses stored procedures and it is a great function to improuve development and to improuve security to the SQL data.

We didn't look to the code of Xoops, yet. But it should work with AdoDB anyway. This layer will create a transparant layer to the SQL database access. If the xxxnuke CMS are using this class, why should XOOPS go to another direction ? A sql transparency layer is a need for portability.

My question simply points to the direction, we would see a section on XOOPS which discuss PostgreSQL installation, the hacks to make, so we can dig into the source to clean out portability issues.

So what's the current situation ? Is the issue of postgreSQL (pgSQL) solved or not ? Are there possibilities to publish a beta section for postgreSQL support and installation, so other people can help too ?

It is a trivial task, if You use AdoDB. This is stated since a few years in some threads in this board, and still there is no mature support for postgreSQL.

If You read some other posts, there are made promises to realize the pgsql integration.
Ref:https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=552&forum=8

We currently use another CMS, but if XOOPS still lacks support for PostgreSQL, we have no reason to write modules for the CMS too.

PostgreSQL has too many features to take advantage off, as well as a better support for stored procedures, rollback, stability issues and blob/user defined var.

We agree, with AdoDB You have a layer to have transparant access to the SQL database, but other projects can take advantage of the add-in features of this SQL base.

It's pretty uncomfortable to have a need to run two SQL bases, if You need only one, and it sucks resources on the server.

Is there some scheme how to enable PostgreSQL so we can help to test it further ?

Is there a doctor in the room to answer this question ?
