When you did the downgrade you did upload all the 2.0.13.2 files before you uploaded and ran the downgrade script, right? The script will not work if you don't do that (upload all the 2.0.13.2 files) first...

I donwgraded from 2.2.4 to 2.0.13.2, then upgraded to 2.0.14. When I downgraded to 2.0.13.2, I noticed some problems that did not seem curable from the downgrade (redirection back to former page after login, some extra blocks, warnings, etc). IT just seemed kinda' screwy. At that point, I figured that it would just be good to - in the terms of another quite familiar saying - reinstall windows.

I ended up running the downgrade script (after uploading the new 2.0.13.2 files). Then saving my database and mainfile.php. Then I did a complete new installation of XOOPS 2.0.13.2 using the data from my mainfile.php to create the new install. After that, I installed each module and pasted the sql from the post-downgrade backup. I had a whole new site. I had to redo practically everything about the site, but it seems to run faster and better now. It's probably a pretty screwy way to go about the whole thing, but it was a pretty good experience and my site works lots better.

Okay, so I think the issue is related to something in the downgrade of 2.2.4 to 2.0.13.2 and then the upgrade to 2.0.14. There were several other mods that seemed to have some difficulties with those transitions. I ended up Cleaning out all my files, creating a new XOOPS installation with all my old settings, instaling the modules as new, and then cutting and pasting all the old sql into my modules. That seems to have worked. Apart from that, I have no idea how to fix it.

It would be interesting to know if you had the same course of downgrading and then upgrading that I did.

Could there be yet another way to hurt them (as it is immoral, and almost certainly illegal)? Could Paypal not be contacted with this information by a XOOPS representative? It could be presented to them that they are the financial front door of an outfit that is ripping consumers off and that they themselves are possibly opening the door to a lawsuit against them. I bet they would think twice about keeping their relationship with this, uhh, organization...

The Acceptable Use Policy forbids the use of Paypal for illegal activities. This could give Paypal a black eye if they don't pay attention. I suspect even the hint of a legal issue will get their attention...

Thanks, Dave_L!

I tried that and it didn't change it, though I greatly appreciated the assistance. I fear that something in XOOPS configuration altered after I downgraded from 2.2.4 to 2.0.13.2. Then when I upgraded to 2.0.14 it just continued functioning that way. What I ended up doing was saving my database and then reinstalling my site completely. It was probably something folks might cosider doing once in awhile, anyway. It got rid of a ton of repeated blocks that just kind of showed up in the blocks manager. Additionally, it cured the issue of the redirect. In general, after having started on XOOPS in January 2002, it seemed like there was a lot of crap in my files and database. It just runs better now (though I still have to install about half of the modules I was running and it has required a ton of cut/paste in my phpmyadmin). It redirects backs to the page it was on before the login now, if you log in from the block on the left. I suspect that when the time comes to develop an upgrade script for the folks who are running 2.2.4, it will be a bigger job than expected.

Anyway, anough for the drivel. I appreciate, as always, the help.

Thanks, Bender. Makes sense... at least the reasoning. As I looked at the title for the post a few minutes ago, I thought that it looked like I was being critical, in retrospect. I wasn't trying to be. Only trying to learn more about what LDAP was and what purpose it served for xoops. Now, at least, I understand that part.

Thanks,

LDAP: What's the use?

So, I'm clearly not a guru. Can anyone explain to me in simple terms the benefit of ldap as part of xoops? I have searched here and on the net in general to better understand ldap, but it isn't really sinking in. The most I think I understand about it as relates to XOOPS is that if someone is using XOOPS on an intranet that it might do, uhh, something to make authentication easier.

Thanks for any insight that anyone can give.

Does it matter where I insert the lines of code in the file? I looked the code over but could not be sure where to insert it.

Thanks,
Mike D.

Thanks, Dave_L...

Perhaps this has something to do with it. I downgraded from 2.2.4 to 2.0.13.2 and then upgraded to 2.0.14. It was doing it ever since I downgraded to 2.0.13.2.

There does seem to be a difference between logging in from the login block and logging in from user.php.

What I am frustrated by is my inability to pin down the reason why, when for instance, I came to this page, saw that you had posted a response, logged in with the login block to the left, and was immediately redirected back to this page to post this message. My site sends folks to random pages where they have no visit history.

The system login block seems unchanged between the various versions - 2.0.13.2, 2.0.14, and 2.2.4.

Its prob something incredibly simple - almost always is.

Thanks, Dave_L

Thanks, Stelian, for replying.

It was a good response. It did not work, though. Mine had the Quote:
<{$xoops_module_header}>
included in the theme and has since I found the theme. I have had other themes, though, that did need it. If you have any other ideas, I appreciate any of them.

Thanks, Stelian!
