Re: Learning from others: Wordpress through the eyes of a xoops developer

There is one fundamental question. What really XOOPS is and what it shoud be?
Is XOOPS (XCL and ?????) a framework, or is it a blog platform, a CMS system or "Web Application Platform" as XOOPS Cube developers calls it?
Me, as You and many others "adult" xoopsers know how to start, build and work with a new project. But try look on it though newbie eyes. It's not so easy. XOOPS (and forks) are really easy to setup, and work on it. I thing we should not only back into "packs" (read above), but also with tutorials and a newbie guides. XOOPS Cube has UNMG - Ultimate Newbies Modules Guide and Hodajuku Distribition, that shows to new users where to start. I like that method. You take HD package and starts a new portal with all modules working on it. Without any hacks, works with editors in modules function files .... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Just core + 100% working modules you need to start your own website!
Ok but it's not everything. As I mentioned earlier - we need quickstarts - enhaced versions of startpack - with examle content in portal. With preconfigured modules, blocks, etc.

And at last - special space (category, portal, whatever) for newbies.

In that case XOOPS start to be a really user friendly CMS (or Web Aplication Platform - I like that!). So we have to start with tuts to show newbies how to use XOOPS CMS System.

Do you all remember "Is XOOPS (.org) becoming a playground?"? In background of this discussion is that point of view onto XOOPS at all.

PS Kaotic on this moment I thing it is useless. Why? Implementing content into system sounds nice, and I like it, but we all waiting for XOOPS 3.0. After that we shall do the best to do it. Content or other module - doesn't matter - it shoud be light, fast, and elastic. BTW - look on that thread on XOOPS Cube - CKK for XOOPS Cube - forum and news.

And the most important thing - we have to focus on 2.3.x and 2.4.x versions. It's a good habit to have support only for 2 last versions. Modules compatibility (special thanks to babylonbyxoops, mamba and others, who said that we shall see compatybility list hero on xoops.org). We shoul focus on themes, extensios, block, hacks just for those 2 versions. Whatever else is dead! Incompatibibities shoud be moved to archives. We close the doors to go into next level. Im doing that by my self. I just deleted all my files with 2.0.28 and 2.2 branch. Started from "0" with 2.3.3 and now with 2.4.

And one more think - for Odin! - SEO and url rewrite - look on the forums - not only herem but on local supports too! It's a shame that XOOPS doesn't have that in core!

Re: How to resize the default theme

Before youtry to change, update, modyfy theme or template do these steps:
1. In system preferences (general settings under the theme list and the theme that you chode - use) change into "YES" field Check templates for modifications ?
2. Clear your cache.
3. After changes just reload site

4. It's a really fantastic with your defalt theme that has flexible layot. In other words it's mean that it shoul be wisible without scrolling in any resolution.
5. May we see you site, coz something is wrog with it (or that user, who said he must scrolling that site).
6. Simply thing is that you use some object, flash, movie, picture, that blocks scaling yours website layout.

First answer to pt 4-5 then we shall se what really happened.

Re: smartsection 2.14 and xoops 2.4.2

hmmm I'm working on XOOPS 2.4.2 with smartsection 2.14 and SmartObject Framework 1.01 and it works without any problem.

And solutions is here:http://www.xuups.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?forum=28&post_id=463

PS publisher is based on smartsection architecture so do the same.

Re: Last work

Forum (newbb) templates you got in the theme folder (under modules/newbb/...) and they run as they are. I decided to delete $xThemes variable - I don't need them in this case. As for css file I call directly css file <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="<{$xoops_imageurl}>css/forums.css" /> in head section.

Wox and BitC3R0 gave us a nice lesson at theme structure. It is an idea to call different template for part of system (portal, site) just in the theme.
I'm siting now with one theme for magazine (extended blog etc) that uses this functionality... but it's another story.

PS I didn't have any problems with wox, and in my opinion theme, that you see on smartklub is simplified wox - that's why BitC3R0 and Red México www.redmexico.com.mx are in meta as autor. After cleaning mess with css adn files it well be visible in footer too. As you see there is no footer now.

and PS PS ??? ???????? ??? ????! (does XOOPS org correctly display language characters? hmmm)
Have to write it in latin: mienia nrawitsca wasz sajt!

Last work

Hey and hello
There is my last work for polish socciety - smart car fanclub.

Link:http://smartklub.pl

Theme based on wox theme (I like it's architecture ... some more I hope at today evening)
Module used:
Smartsections with extended blocks on main page: horizontal slider, news slider, and on other pages - last item slider.
For profiles - Alfreds profile module 1.65 from myxoops.org site. Caution - it's still alpha! And I take some changes on it. (waiting for stable realise).
For images - myAlbymP (by GJ xoops.peak.ne.jp) with top table view hack (you can take it here) and thumbnails navigation hack (see it here)
On right column - wblock module (you can take it from here - esxoops.com

Special blocks - last registered user (mainpage) with extended template, and on forums sites - most active users - with extended template that use smarty plugin block.table_foreach.php. More about that on babylonbyxoops.net site.
As a header I used cu3er image slider - find more on CU3ER site (mentioned somwhere on xoops.org forums)

System XOOPS 2.3.3b updated form 2.0.18.

Hope U will like it as we do!

TODO
1. Switch smartsection to publisher module
2. Enhace templates for smartsection (publisher) - to display single article page and category page (article list), myalbum (block) - last pictures with thumbnails, and templates (all) for profiles module - I need much more professional look.
