Hmm.. Since no one has replied yet I will assume no one has any info about this specific question.

Therefore, what about any general ideas on a way to present breaking news on a site, besides just using a custom block and doing it manually?

thanks

Breaking News Block and News 1.4 Module

Hi all.

I have looked on this site and have yet to find a module that could handle this. If any one knows of a pre existing module that can accomplish this please point me in the right direction. :)

My situation is as follows. I am making a local news website and a breaking news section is very important.

I would like to have the Breaking News section integrated into my News module.

For example. It would include a breakin news block. This block would include a 'display time' option.(say 1-24 hours). I could type up the breaking news story and then "program" it to stay on the site for say 6 hours. When the timer expires it would automatically move the story to the recent news block.

I am currently doing this manually with a custom block, but by doing that I am creating stories that are not integrated into my regular news module as far as tracking how many times the story is read, etc.

BTW it doesnt have to be news 1.4. I am willing to look at any module with this capability. I tried to modify news 1.4 to do this but my programing skills are non existent. I am willing to make mods with input from anyone who knows how to program this stuff :)

If you need a further/better explanation please ask.

Thanks for your input.

hmm I checked the file with attrib...no attributes were turned on. I must be doing something else wrong..maybe trying to run the wrong script?

I am trying to runhttp://localhost/xoops2/html/upgrade/xoops_206_to_207.php

When i run this it tells me to make sure I have read/write enabled for my mainfile.php before i continue. I have double checked that and as I said there are no attributes set on that particular file.

Am i running the correct file? or maybe is there a problem with the 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 upgrade? I know this is old stuff, but i am only trying to upgrade the version of XOOPS that came with xsas.

If there is another option, like just writing over the old files since its all on a local server, I am willing to listen to all ideas.

I am still learning all the basics so a lot of this i dont quite grasp yet.

Thanks

Hey all.

I am running xsas with XOOPS ver 2.0.6 and I am trying to upgrade it. I downloaded the 2.0.6 -> 2.0.7 upgrade and tried to run the script. It tells me my mainfile.php is not read writeable

I have right mouse clicked on the file and turned off Read only. After that I got the XOOPS administrator to give me a warning about being able to write to this file, but when I run the script again, I still get the same error.

Any help would be appreciated. I have searched for about 2 hours now for a solution. I even downloaded several FTP programs to try to change permissions with the CHMOD command?.... I just brain dead i guess.

Thanks

News, direct link question

Hi all.

I am a complete noob, so bear with me please.

I am developing a local news website. Initially, most of my content is going to be direct links to other news websites. Sort of a compilation of local events. I would like to put a small blurp(intro text) on the news front page, and have a direct offsite link attached to it. So far as I can tell it currently takes two clicks to get offsite from the news module?

I like the features of the news module(top news, recent news, archive etc.) but I can't figure out how to get the benefit of these features with one click access to other websites.

If I didnt adequately describe my problem/question, please feel free to prod me for a better description. :)

Maybe XOOPS is not what I need for this site? Although, from what I have seen so far I like it.

Thanks
fosterm
