Get a life Max - for somebody who was going to find it so incredibly easy to get a mod done for Mambo, the forums definately indicate otherwise!

You can't just play two applications off against eachother to get what you want, it doesn't work like that. And none of us are against people making money out of software... what we don't like to see is people taking advantage, asking OTHERS to create a module that would generate income for THEMSELVES!

Hang on just a second... there's been a bit of a change of heart here hasn't there? Not complaining at all though!

Only yesterday you wouldn't touch IPB with a barge-pole! Out of interest then, is the new 1.3 somewhat closer to what you get from vB3 currently?

You have a habit of talking about how "easy" things are.

If they're so f'ing easy, why not just do them yourself? All of a sudden not so easy right?

Max, I don't think you quite understand what is involved in integrating a mod. This may have been the whole reason you got so worked up about the vB3 issue.

When an application is integrated into Xoops, much of the core code of the initial application has to be altered. This is to change the way that functions are called, to fit in with Xoops' templating system, database handling, integration to the XOOPS user list etc etc etc. IT WILL ALWAYS BE A PORT. You can't simply create a "module" that acts as a bridge between the two applications as you seem to think - the original application MUST be altered and MUST be distributed with modifcations (normally quite substantial) in order for the integration to work.

I agree... it's probably one of the first thing that wants including in the new module.

Can't help you with the first question I'm afraid, and I'm not sure I can with the second, but I'll give it a go!

From the sounds of it, the server is set up to deny permission to a folder unless a specific, existing file is requested. You can do this on hosted servers, for example, with a .htaccess file to prevent people seeing an index page of everything in the directory.

So it just looks to me that the server isn't configured to look for an index.php file.

Of course, I could be way off target - I but if you don't fcuk up you'll never learn! ;)

News module enhancements

God, you guys must be getting sick of the sound of my voice (metaphorically speaking, of course!) - but at least I ask nicely! ;)

It just occured to me that it would be nice to have a few basic alterations made to the News module:

1) When you are in News, the menu expands and shows the news topics as sub-sections within the main menu.

2) Each topic has it's own archive, or topics can perhaps be filtered from within the main archive.

3) Instead of the News module just showing the most recent news, it displays the most recent news by topic.

Maybe it's just me who would find it useful - and if so, just tell me to hide in a corner with my hands on my head. I just kind of think it would help create a "channels" feel to a XOOPS site. To be honest, I might have a try at hacking it myself - but that would mean dusting off ye olde book of PHP and having a bloody good read of the API before I can even start, so it might be easier (and about 10 years quicker!) if another dev wanted to do the honours!

Cheers,
Gareth

He's recently released a mod which integrates phpBB 2.0.6 into Xoops

Same goes for vshosting.net who are quite a bit cheaper for those requiring higher levels of bandwidth.
