Hi DJ

It is the same situation with documentation. We can't post documents on docs.xoops.org because there is nobody to send them to, and we ourselves have no access. We have several times and for a long time now offered to take on this work ourselves and to join teams if necessary, but this proposal has met silence. I cannot understand why.

Thanks.

Sorry I meant community teams in general (not the Community Team in particular).

As an example, the 'community' (ie. 'unofficial') docs team has no access to docs.xoops.org. As a result it is not possible for us to publish completed documents here where people can find them easily.

It would be good if the people doing the work could be entrusted with responsibility to manage it (we have offered several times), or at the very least, some kind of submission/review process needs to be established.

Thanks.

Edit: Overlapping post, but anyway I will leave it.

If there is one, it would also be good to know if it is 'official' or not. The problem with 'community teams' at the moment is that they have no access to 'official resources' or support needed to do their job.

Download the XOOPS operations guide, check out the section on installing modules.

Basically, you need to drop each module in the /modules directory, then go to system => modules and press the install module button.

Make sure you check the readme for each module, as some have special requirements in set up.

Very unfortunate, but it was inevitable that the two systems would start to diverge and that he would have to make a choice.

He has contributed a lot to XOOPS, I don't know if he reads this site but anyway a big thanks to GIJOE from me.

Edit: It appears he's not a happy man - full thread here. I would suggest that perhaps the template compatibility issue he wants fixed be seriously looked at...there's been a notice on his site about it for a very long time now (just over a year).

The best way to improve your search engine position is to provide good content. A simple but often overlooked fact!

The Google webmaster guidelines above are a must-read.

1. Agree with Herve's point about keeping the forum structure as simple as possible:

Quote:
Xoops is made of 5 things, the core, the module, the themes, some hacks and (no) documentation.

Suggest adding the 'suggestions' forum mentioned previously, and not having a 'complaints' forum (similar thing but think positive!)

2. I suggest NOT including the following from the O.P. because they are already handled through comments on the news stories:
* Module reviews
* Theme reviews

Alternatively, if you want to have these as forums then news stories should have comments *disabled* and include a link to direct the discussion to the relevant forum.

3. I think xoops.org needs to make up its mind whether its going to be a 'core support only' site or not. If it is, then the following forums should also be dropped:
* Module usage
* Module hacks and improvements.

Of course, if xoops.org is going to continue to be core + third party modules then it would be helpful to have a formal decision about it. There is a great deal of confusion about 'community' vs 'project', and these terms are being used in an arbitrary (and frankly, quite unhelpful) manner at the moment.

Realistically, if xoops.org has non-core forums on it then its going to continue to be a community site. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying that the people that are trying to pretend that its 'project only' should stop.

Thanks.

So as far as I understand this (for better or worse):

1. Xoopsinfo has no official site status and isn't going to be the official support site.

2. The forums on xoops.org are going to remain here (so in practical terms, xoops.org will stay the official support site). However, they will be restructured.

3. DJ's response *implies* that this is an official thread and that input will be looked at. Sometimes, I wish you would be a bit more direct, if things were clearer we would spend less time talking in circles!

Or have I got it wrong?

I had this problem too. In my case, I had forgotten to update the system module. Try it, should sort you out (well, sort your site out, anyway).

Can I ask if this thread has some sort of *official* sanction, ie. will the views expressed by the community be considered by the management? Or is it an 'unofficial' thread which will be totally ignored?

Seriously, I would like to know. Like many other people, I've been posting in 'wish list' threads for several years to no avail. It would be useful to know which threads are 'official' opportunities to provide input and which are not, because the unofficial ones (with all due respect to the orginal poster, who I know has good intentions) are a complete waste of people's time.

We need an officially recognised mechanism whereby ideas put forward by the community (or solicited feedback on whatever issue) can be reviewed and decided on. Otherwise we are pouring our energy down the drain.

Thanks.
