I have a smimilar problem,
News is set as your default home page. This means that
when you add a block it goes on the page - but news is still in the background.

You can get a block which displays one of your news story (i think its called spotlight). You can also download a newer news module with spotlight included.

Once you have a module that allows you to display a news story in a block, then all you have to do is disable news as the default home page. Use spotlight block for your news story and then set the weight so its at the top. All other blocks can be weighted after the spotlight block.

Seems like a pain in the ass to me (I cant get spotlight to work as my version of PHP is not 4.3x).

Unless anyone knows any better way to do it?

I stopped news being my default home page, but would still like a couple of news stories on the front page,
How would I set a news story to become a block?
Or what is the block that can display a number of news stories?

Cheers,

Rob B

OK - DISASTER OVER,

sorry for the over-reaction, to fix it I deleted all my themes and re-installed the original theme (although I still have to re-edit the theme to as it was.

Atleast it works, and cheers jdseymour for your support.

Hi there,

I was playing with the theme.htm file (only changing a button) and now the site has lost all its frames,

I revert to a back up copy and the site is still messed up, i then change theme, and the page is still messed up with no frames.

i have deleted all my internet history incase it wasnt refreshing properly but it still wont work,

has anyone got any ideas what to do?

It could be that I need to clear the cache or something but how would I do that?

Please help! - Thanks

Rob

I appreciate all of your thoroughly excellent advise and comments, It is so good to have such a great community. I guess it will be as fast as its going to be.
Loading files on the existing Intranet is perfectly fine so hopefully the speed at which files load should be fine with XOOPS too. Im sure it will be a little laggy (especially now I have included the excellent XOOPS gallery 1.33) but hopefully no one will mind.

Im sure attracting users will do nothing to help the speed of the site, but does anyone have any ideas of other modules that might increase people using the intranet. I did see an excellent map module that you could drag-and-drop little figures on to your holiday location. Something like that would really increase traffic in an office like this. Any more suggestions would be gratefully appreciated..

Hi there,

I have read a lot recently about XOOPS being a very slow cms when used by a lot of people,

I am setting up an intrantet for use by about 200 people using xoops.

i would like to know if people have any experience of this kind of usage, and how slow it is likely to become.

Is XOOPS really as slow as I have read?
My site will have about 50 pages, including photo gallery.

Cheers for any comments,

Rob B

Hi there,

I have posted about transferring my site before but I was a little confused. I have built my site using XSAS and never really had a major problem (im using windows 2000 pro), but now I need to stick it on our network so it can be used as our new Intranet.

How easy do you rekon it should be to get the intranet site on the network? its not for external use and its a windows server,

couldnt I just copy all the files from w:/ (xsas uses this on my local machine) on to the server?

Cheers for any help or suggestions,

Rob

where could I find the module for this exact version?

many thanks for any help,

Rob.
