Hi everyone,

In your country, how commonly known is XOOPS as a solution for business or corporate web sites? If XOOPS is a well-known solution in your country, why do you think that this is the case? Marketing, prominent XOOPS sites, an active expert community? If not, tell us why as well!

Xoops is an amazing tool for business web sites of any size due to the modular features it offers, the ease of development, and of course, the price (free!). While the future of XOOPS looks great at this point, introducing the advantages of the software to business users around the world is crucial to the success of the project as well.

I'm interested in what you have to say!

Hi everyone,

What are the largest regional XOOPS Communities across the world? I'd like to get a clearer picture of the number of XOOPS users across the globe, either by country or by region (South America, etc.). I'm curious to know what other people think about this, and how you came about this impression (how did you arrive at your conclusions about the number of XOOPS sites / users in your country).

I think this is going to be an interesting thread! Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I just wrote a short blog post about importing large MySQL database files with a script called BigDump, which imports your database file in small increments, getting around the "server timeout issue". If you have to backup and import large XOOPS database MySQL files, this might be a good tip for you.

Re: Adding alt tag to images in custom block

If you want to add Alt descriptions to your image tags, you must modify the image tag like this:

<img src="http://yourdomain.com/images/imagename.jpg" alt="This is the Alternate Text" />

So, go to your Blocks admin page, find the custom block, hit the edit link,, and just modify the code where your image is embedded in that block. You are basically just adding alt="This is the Alternate Text" inside the image tag.

On another note, if you are adding this Alt description to help with youR XOOPS site SEO, you may also want to change your file names so that they are more keyword descriptive....as this will also help your SEO efforts. You would have to change the reference to the image file in your custom blocks, as well as actually changing the file name where it is uploaded to the server. Here's an article that I recently wrote about image file names for XOOPS SEO.

Hi everyone,

I just wrote a summary article on the Top Ten Reasons Businesses Choose Xoops. "Why Xoops?" is a question that I am often asked, and so I hope this article gives more insight into why XOOPS can be such a great CMS for business.

If you have any additional reasons why you would recommend XOOPS for a business web site, please comment!

I've written a short blog posting on how to install the Slimstat web stats package on your web site. Slimstat is an open-source web stats package that I find really easy to set up and use. Information is included on how to link to the web stats page through your XOOPS admin control panel.

Note: this isn't an adaptation of Slimstat into a XOOPS module, but I thought it might be of interest to people regardless.

How could you modify that hack to display content for particular user groups? For example,I want to show a download link for members of a special group that I made, a new user group ID4. How do I only allow them to see the hidden content (the download link) and not the other user groups?

thanks,

Finding Xoops Jobs on Craigslist!

Hi everyone,

I have created a page on XoopsExperts.com where you can easily search for Xoops-related jobs on Craigslist.org. If you don't already know, Craigslist is the world's most popular classifieds site, and it is a good place to find new XOOPS or CMS-related job postings.

Search XOOPS Jobs on Craigslist.org

On my search page, there are two search boxes. One is for the keyword "cms", which is a commonly used keyword. The other is for the keyword "xoops", which is less frequently used. Both search boxes will search the "Jobs" and "Gigs" sections of ten popular Craigslist city sites (New York, Los Angeles, etc.)

Try the "xoops" search box first, to see if you get any hits. You may not, as this is an infrequently-used term. Try the "cms" search box next, to see more general results, which will also include help-wanted ads for other CMS's (such as Joomla, etc.)Perhaps you can convince those people to use XOOPS in their project instead! :)

Remember to check the date when each job posting was submitted. The date is often at the top of the job posting page. The search results are "generally" in order of the most recent postings, but you should check anyways. You will have better results when responding to more recent postings!

Good luck!
