Hi everyone,

I just wrote a short blog post about importing large MySQL database files with a script called BigDump, which imports your database file in small increments, getting around the "server timeout issue". If you have to backup and import large XOOPS database MySQL files, this might be a good tip for you.

Restoring your XOOPS database with BigDump

Cheers,

Some database backup & restore modules like BackPack and Xoops DB Backup & Restore (see repository) have BigDump integrated.

Another good database script is MySQLDumper.

Thanks for this Jeff, I myself have been using mysqldumper for quite some time now, very good imho.

Mysqldumper can also break a large database into small parts, that is sometimes necessary because some hosts allow for instance only 10.000 inserts in one hour.
So even if you have a restore program that takes a break now and then, you will get to this limit (of 10.000 inserts) very soon and then the party is over.

BigDump gets my vote Some shared hosts are really mean with their SQL upload limits. This utility has saved the day for me more than once.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.

Can bigdump deal with for instance 120.000 inserts when there is a limit set by the host of 10.000 / hour?
