You can make registered users forum moderators just from the 'Edit Forum' in the Admin.

If they have 'global' privileges, which I would mean as they have Module Admin rights, go check your group settings. This is often where module admin rights are set. Forum moderators do not need to have a special group. Do you have a group for Moderators?

For modules, go to Admin Menu and click Preferences/Configuration of the Modules and disable notifications.

For the user menu, go to Admin Menu -> System Admin -> Blocks, look for the User Menu and edit template. (You can also do this from the Templates Management). Comment out the part where the <a href> for the notification is called. Comment out that whole line for notifications. Remember to use HTML comments <!-- -->.

That's a global Smarty variable in XOOPS. If you're still experimenting with XOOPS, i.e. it is not yet a public site, you can turn on Smarty Debugging to check out the Smarty variables available per page. Go to System Admin -> Preferences -> General Settings to change debug settings.

"Page Rank is Google's measure of the importance of this page." Given this terms, how useful is the page rank?

My website is ranked very low according to page rank, but with several of my preferred key words and phrases, I am sometimes No. 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8. As long as I am in the first page of results, I am happy.

Are you talking about the 'Empty' tab in phpMyAdmin? I think this truncates the table. There's no way to populate it again unless you have the sql dump file or a backup.

Try to check your webhost if they have some backups of your site. It's worth a try.

Content is very important for page rank in Google. It is more important than meta data. Your website should contain articles that also contain your most important keywords. That's why, at least for my site, the News module is more 'visible' in Google even though it contains only 30+ articles, as compared to my more active NewBB.

My suggestion is to maximize your Article Management System (News or WF-Sections) and use it to create articles with your keywords.

I also think you've missed this part of the installation instructions:

"If your running in a hosted environment, unpack the XOOPS 2 files locally or on the server if you have telnet or SSH access. Once you done this, make sure to move or copy all XOOPS 2 files from the HTML directory to your root web directory (your provider usually provides this location with directions). Once the files are copied there, you can start the install by typinghttp://yoursite.com. This will start the install process."

In short, you were not supposed to include the HTML directory itself, only its contents. Some users encountered problems because of this.

Yes, thanks, Mithrandir. Forgot to add that. That <td> 'mainmenu' class is important and essential because of the way the class 'menuSub' is declared in the style sheet.

I would also suggest to those who would like to make flat menus to look into the way the User Menu is html coded and the css classes used. You can see that you can vary the way the User Menu looks from the Main Menu (Community) just from the style sheet.

For flat menus (I hope I understand this correctly), creating a custom block patterned after the main menu block can be done.

The important point to take note is the class of the <a href>. For submenus the class should be "menuSub".

Here's a sample:

<a href="http://siteurl/modules/news/index.php?storytopic=13" class="menuSub">Link of Text here</a>

This is applicable only if you use the default template and style sheet settings.

Hi,

What exactly is this .dist file? Is it a 'current updated' copy of the mainfile.php? I'd just like to know for future reference.

Thanks!
