Ah, you first tell phppp that a lot is already in the works, and then you ask me for things that are also in the works?

Sorry, but I distinguish between 'Theme Design' and 'Logo Design'. I, for myself, find theme design much easier than logo design.

But I take the point....am excited about what else you mentioned regarding the subject

Quote:

That's my Point C. in my previous post I think the XooSphere stable release (which is still quite a bit away) presents the opportunity of a lifetime to organise a *real* campaign. I like the Firefox campaign, but that was actually *against* the (worse but immensely more popular) alternative. I'm not sure if we need to take such a stand, but perhaps XooSphere will be revolutionary in the CMS world... That doesn't disqualify the idea at all tho, and there are some very good examples of promotion we can use for our own purposes.

Could be seen as climax of marketing efforts then.

Quote:

I think that the meetups are a good idea, but that they should be organised by the local support sites. And we can't force it, people will only come if there is something to get.

But we can inspire There had been an attempt in the German community, though the organizer was not happy with the response, and killed of all his XOOPS related activities Some people are very sensitive to critic.

Quote:

What we could do tho, is to create a 'masterclass XOOPS for beginners' package with CD's, Flash tutorials, booklets etc. that people can use to organise Install Parties at local centers or schools or whatever...

Like that very much, and it goes along my ideas, of free instalation CD's for distribution, but your additions are gold worth.

The doc team may be able to help us out here.

I especially like the idea regarding schools. Just not sure yet, how to manager something like that. Our australian community member Jen, is a teacher, maybe she has some ideas. It would have to be High School though. I have a friend who's a teacher, I will ask her, what she thinks of the idea, of teaching kids how to set-up a portal, using XOOPS. Maybe she can bring me in contact with the 'computers' teacher.

Also others are encourage to do the same. If you know an IT teacher, why not chat with them, about organizing school classes, where the students learn how to run a web site, using a system like XOOPS.

Quote:

Hosting partners is something different, as this means that every hist that has Fantastico is listed, and that doesn't say much.

Did you know that the Lycos OneClick(tm) system has XOOPS? So every Lycos user can install XOOPS with just one click...

It had crossed my mind...not well thought through.

Yes, finally we will all have a gathering

Yes, Sydney XOOPS Users

Thanks to the service of Meetup.com, we have an easy way to get organized!

Our first meeting will be on April the 21'th, at 19:00. I haven't yet selected a venue, as I need to ensure, that we will have wireless access, so that we can access our sites, and/or post a 'Greeting From Down-Under' message, here in the forums, and tell them how pis....hmhm, how much fun we are having

If you don't have any wireless equipment, no worries mate, I will have 2 devices that can be used.

Please Sign Up, and let me know if you will be able to make it. If you all can't make it on that day, but have an alternative date to suggest, just let me know, and I'll make the arrangements

So, who's gonna come?

As Mithrandir mentioned in in this thread, we will soon have a roadmap available. The roadmap will help to organize marketing efforts.

Remember how I mentioned Firefox? What got their community so active to participate in marketing efforts, was the 1.0 release. Maybe for XOOPS it could be XooSphere?

----

What about Meet-Up Groups? There are currently 11 groups, with 33 members We need to promote these groups more on the local support sites. Which will be difficult for Canada, USA, GB, Australia, so the english speaking groups, will need to do so on XOOPS.org.

Herko, how is yours going?

I have created a XOOPS User Group for Sydney. Anyone in the neighbourhood, please sign-up

(I will start a fresh thread with more details)

----

@phppp:

- eye-candy: in the works (please read posts above!)
- theme competition: in the works, but on hold until XOOPS Theme Forge development has stabelised; once we know how things will work on the forge, we can plan for the 'going public', which will be with the competition. I don't know what you believe, but this is a hell of a lot of work, and there isn't much enthusiasm regarding contributions either.

Now, may I quote herko, who rephrased others in this thread, regarding what should be discussed in this thread:
Quote:

how can we promote people to use the XOOPS we now have

----

@herko: what happened to the mascot idea? What was the feedback from the artist? If he reclined further usage, does anyone know someone competent, that could design us a new logo?

----

How can we encourage users, to list their site with us?

What about a counter: XXXXX sites are powered by XOOPS?

Could we have a seperate 'Hosting Partners' section, where hosts can be listed, that have XOOPS preinstalled?

Currently you have the news module set as "Module der Startseite", change this to "Kein".

Now create a block (Sys Admin -> Blöcke) and create a block, in which you put the info you would prefer to have on your front page. Make it "Sichtbar in" as Homepage.

Hoffe Du kommst damit zurecht There is also a German Support site, if you prefer.

Have a page like Mozilla/Firefox with marketing materials, for inspiration check out their site.

For more detailed info, check out their Wiki.

There was/is a mailinglist, where members would post, if there was something in the news about firefox, or browsers in general. Participants were asked to respond, in a fair and neutral manner.

We could have a 'marketing wiki', where members can list conferences, and other IT events. The marketing team could try and organize a stand at these events, where demonstrations are held, and free installation CD's are distributed.

And there is Spread Firefox.org => spreadxoops ????

On that site, check out Guerillia Marketing.

Would could produce stickers, that members would purchase from XOOPS.org (foundation), to stick on school books, train stations, light posts, etc.

Why not benefit from what Firefox has done? Copying is good

Couldn't we cooperate?

----
keywords
professional intranet, expandable content managment system, web site building, community building, totall control, quick and easy, no hassles, quick support, free,.....(just of the top of my tired head, to inpire others....this is brainstorming)
----

Create a list for what XOOPS can be used:
- private web site
- extendable blog, with photo gallery, chat functionality,...
- corporate and government intranets
- e-commerce sites
- business presentation sites
- business/customer interaction sites
- ...to be continued...

----

Really need to sleep now....

Got this link from Damaster, should serve as inspiration. It's about the brand consultant Barry Sheppard, and how he helps companies keep their edge (cutomer attention).

Mambo has been doing well, because the have been working on a brand. If there is a team, that will be dedicated to marketing, they should first analyse what they have done, and learn from them.

XOOPS, the name, is brilliant as and for a brand. Well, I love it (a statment often read in the forums, may I point out).

----

What is XOOPS?

What does it stand for?

Where does it want to go?

Less abstract, what do core developers believe they are working on?

----

- logo/maskot
- internationalisation/international coordination!!!

----

Can we learn from the recent Firefox campaign?
What may we addapt?

Just a few thoughts, after a long day, late at night...

Salut Kathi!

First of, I like the topic of your page, will take a closer look later on

zu 1)

There are different Multi-Language methods available, of which the first in the list is, as far as I know and have experienced, the most 'workable'

- XOOPS Multilanguages 1.4.4

- GIJOE's Easy Multi-Language Hack

- xLanguage

Note: make sure you read the instructions carefully!

zu 2)

Could you be a little more specific? Which module are you refering to? How are they not changing (why do you expect them to change)?

Though, you can always look at the source code of an article page, and check if there are any style classes used with the articles, and change them in your stylesheets (if this helps).

All font related settings are controlled by CSS styles, which you will find in your themes stylesheet (most commenly style.css).

Some modules have their own stylesheets, which you can find in the module folder.

zu 3)

It is possible, but not advisable. Users are content-hungry, and want to reach their goal (be fed with info), as quickly as possible. An introduction page is often viewed as an obsticle, wich causes a subtle frustration.

You can just create an HTML-page named index.html, which has a link to index.php. You then just place the index.html page (your intro page) into your root folder.

Hope this helps

JasonMR

***edit***

If you were refering to the news module, and want to change its articles appearance, here is a list of the style classes you will need to change in your themes style sheet:

- itemHead/itemTitle -> to control heading style
- itemInfo -> control all info at once
- itemPoster -> control 'Geschrieben von'
- itemPostDate -> control date display
- itemStats -> control 'wie oft Artikel gelesen wurde'
- itemText -> control actual article text

HTH
